The Minister of Tourism and Employment of the Government of the Canary Islands, Jéssica de León (PP), the Deputy Minister of Tourism, José Manuel Sanabria, and the general director of Tourism Planning, Training and Promotion, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, met this Thursday with representatives of hotel and non-hotel employers, unions, Chambers of Commerce and owners' associations to address the draft Law on the Sustainable Management of Tourist Use of Housing. According to Rodríguez, the Department of Tourism and Employment of the Canary Islands will hold meetings in the coming days with all the agents involved, including the seven councils and the 88 town councils.
Miguel Ángel Rodríguez was satisfied after the meeting, convened online and in person, held just one day after the joint hearing and public information process for the initiative was opened. The general director highlighted "the cordial tone and the proactive attitude of the attendees, who raised favorable opinions, doubts, alternatives or discrepancies about the content of the initiative." “We have decided to continue seeing each other and continue building this preliminary project, which is still in process and we want it to be the result of the greatest possible consensus,” Rodríguez added.
Representatives of the Hotel and Non-Hotel Association of Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro (Ashotel) were present at this first meeting; the Association of Tourism Entrepreneurs of Fuerteventura (Asofuer); the Lanzarote Tourist Federation (FTL); the Federation of Hospitality and Tourism Entrepreneurs of Las Palmas (FEHT); Exceltur and the Chambers of Commerce of Lanzarote and Tenerife; the Association of Tourist Accommodation Businessmen of Las Palmas (AEAT FEHT) and the Canary Islands Association of Real Estate Management Companies (ACEGI). In addition, representatives of the CC OO union participated, as well as the Canarian Vacation Rental Association (ASCAV).
