The City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana presents the route of the 1st edition of Gran Canaria-Maspalomas Marathon

The Mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Concepción Narváez, has presented to the media the route and complementary activities of the sporting event together with the Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, Yaiza Castilla, the Minister of Sports of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Francisco Castellano, the Sports Councilor, Samuel Henríquez and the Sports Director of the Gran Canaria-Maspalomas Marathon, Aarón Sánchez. 

 

Narváez reiterates that “this first edition of the Gran Canaria-Maspalomas Marathon will be a springboard for amateur athletes and an attraction for professional athletes.” The test will take place next Sunday, November 21, through the streets of the municipality and “it will be a sports festival for all those who want to participate,” declares Mayor Concepción Narváez.

 

The test will run through the main streets of Maspalomas and Meloneras. At 8.00:100 a.m. on Sunday the starting signal will be given at the Maspalomas Lighthouse. The runners will have provisioning services (liquid and solid), timing service, XNUMX% asphalt and flat circuit and street entertainment by batucadas, troupes and DJ's. In addition, the RIU cycling team will accompany the three throughout the route. first in the male and female categories.  

 

A total of 948 have registered in the 42 kilometer test and 1.597 in the 10 kilometer test. About 40% of the participants come from outside the island of Gran Canaria. Among the main countries of origin are Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom and Sweden. And at the national level, Madrid, Catalonia and Andalusia are the ones that contribute the most participants to the marathon. 

 

 

The Gran Canaria-Maspalomas Marathon is a sporting event, which is consolidated as one of the great sporting events in the Canary Islands and nationally. One of the main objectives of this event is to regain the enthusiasm of the Canarian athletes, who will have a new sporting event after these last two years but, in addition, to be a focus of attraction for runners from outside Gran Canaria, as a way of promoting the tourist reactivation of the island. With this, the success of the sport and tourism binomial is confirmed. 

 

The San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council together with DG Events organize this event with the support of the Councilor for Sports, Francisco Castellano, and for Tourism, Carlos Álamo. It also has the support of the Government of the Canary Islands, through Promotur and the “Canary Islands, latitude of life” brand.
