Almost a thousand young and unemployed people attend the Maspalomas Employment, Training and Entrepreneurship Exhibition

 

The Employment, Training and Entrepreneurship Exhibition held this Friday in the urban center of San Fernando de Maspalomas became a true showcase for almost a thousand young and unemployed people from the South and the rest of the municipalities of the Island, interested in looking for work or technical preparation for employability.

 

 

 

Organized in the Plaza del Camellero by the Local Development and Youth Departments of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, the fair had the participation of just over fifty organizations and business entities on the Island and the five secondary education institutes. of the municipality with vocational training programs and intermediate and higher level training cycles.

 

“We have to deeply appreciate the involvement and participation of the more than 50 companies and training centers throughout Gran Canaria committed to society and the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, and willing to collaborate in the generation of employment opportunities,” he stated. the second deputy mayor and councilor for Local Development, Elena Álamo Vega during her visit to the fair. “We are very satisfied with the teamwork carried out by the council departments involved in the organization and staging of the event because it has borne fruit and has had zero cost for the public coffers,” she said.

 

In that sense, many young people and adults took advantage of this business and training event to deliver their resumes and job applications to companies and academies, both by hand and through their emails and QR codes. In just one hour, for example, Liceo 2.000 received more than 30 applications. That was what Samira Santana Cordero, 24 years old and originally from El Tablero, with a degree in Labor Relations and Human Resources, did, delivering her personal letter of introduction to each and every one of the twelve hotel companies present in the exhibition. “It's the sector I want to work in, because I like it,” she said.

 

 

 

The queues in front of the 60 stands, interested in the alternative and work training of the institutes and academies, and in the operation of the companies and their specific job offers, was a constant between 10.00:14 and 00:XNUMX that the event lasted. fair. Many young and even older people came to the McDonald's stand, where its manager Jordi Pérez confessed that the students were attracted to working at the fast food chain “because no prior training is required, since it is the company that "is responsible for preparing them and, above all, because it allows them to combine their work schedule and their studies."

 

The dozen hotel chains were joined by a dozen academies and training centers, three fashion companies, four food companies and nine job placement agencies for different productive sectors, among others. Institutions such as the Construction Labor Foundation, the Femepa Placement Agency and even the Air and Space Army were also present, whose stand was attended by numerous young people with a military vocation.

 

 

 

The Local Development Agency of San Bartolomé de Tirajana also had its own stand, which provided information about the Municipal Employment Portal and its job offers and advice for entrepreneurship, and the Inserta entity, from the ONCE Foundation, specialized in providing of job intermediation services for people with disabilities. The participation in this event of the former president of the Chrysallis Canarias collective, Eva Pascual, dedicated to LGTBIQ+ business awareness, also stood out.

 

In addition, during the exhibition, five training talks were offered dedicated to the Gran Canaria Chamber of Commerce's support for entrepreneurs; technological entrepreneurship in the Canary Islands and the Erasmus Program for young entrepreneurs; good practices of entrepreneurship in San Bartolomé de Tirajana; choosing the future of work and how to improve personal employability.
