One of the main national private networks has opted to film its new star series on the islands, which will be broadcast during prime time television.
The Canary Islands arrives in prime time on the large national networks thanks to Antena 3. The series Una vida menos en Canarias will occupy prime time on Thursdays on the main Atresmedia network starting today. A coveted schedule for series and programs within the network, since it is positioned just after El Hormiguero, the undisputed leader of its slot.
The series is a police thriller with overtones of humor and with a clear source of inspiration in Crimen Paradise, in which a Scotland Yard agent was appointed Chief Inspector of Police on a Caribbean island and solved crimes with the beach in the background. . A successful format that has lasted several seasons for the BBC and is a summer classic on multiple national channels.
The plot of this new series revolves around Luis Lacasa, a Madrid inspector played by Gines García Millán who, due to a visual disorder, makes a serious mistake and is punished, so he decides to go on a cruise through the Canary Islands; where he finds himself on a murder case in which he will have to collaborate with Naira Oramas, an island detective played by Natalia Verbeke.
Precisely this choice by the producers raised some dust in the pre-production stage of the series, since upon hearing the news, some users on social networks criticized the fact that a Canarian actress was not chosen and that she was “disguised as a native” an Argentine actress. For his part, the cast includes the Canarian actor and dancer Sergio Momo, known mainly for his role in the Netflix series Elite.
In this case, the island of Tenerife is the one who has won the day; since the series has been filmed entirely on the neighboring island to the delight of the Chicharrera institutions.
Unlike other blockbusters, this series not only takes advantage of the archipelago as a simple landscape or a stage for a simple scene, but also sets its story there and integrates aspects of the islands in the development of the plot. So much so, that the chain has already shared a funny video of the actors performing the 'challenge' of guessing Canarian expressions.
Something similar happened a few years ago with the Movistar + series “Hierro”, another police thriller but in this case without a trace of humor in its plot. As its name indicates, the series was filmed in El Hierro with the renowned actress Candela Peña as the protagonist and was an absolute success, acclaimed by critics and awarded with several Ondas awards, two Feroz awards and two other Iris awards among many other recognitions.
It will be necessary to see if Atresmedia's new bet has the same fate and if the archipelago benefits from this showcase that premieres today in prime time on national television.
