The optimism forecasts of the business community in the south of Gran Canaria have fallen by 0,8% in commerce and 0,1% in other services (service sector except commerce, transport and hospitality). 22,7% of the managers of establishments in the south of Gran Canaria consider that the progress of their business will be favorable in the first quarter of 2024, while 18,6% think that it will be unfavorable, according to the latest survey by the Istac on economic confidence to which Maspalomas24H has had access. The balance of expectations, calculated as the difference between the percentage of favorable and unfavorable responses, stands at 4,1 points, worse than the 9,2 of the previous quarter.
Regarding the progress of their business in the fourth quarter of 2023, 34,1% of managers have had a favorable opinion. On the other hand, 15,1% have given an unfavorable opinion, which means that the balance sheet, calculated analogously to expectations, takes the value of 19,0, improving the 9,5 points of the previous quarter. Business confidence regarding the fourth quarter of 2023 has increased by 0,4% in Gran Canaria. In terms of activity sectors, it has risen 2,6% in industry, 2,0% in transport and hospitality and 1,2% in construction. In San Bartolomé de Tirajana there are 26 shopping centers, the eight of which are the most obsolete are the Kasbah, Plaza, Metro, Annex II, Oasis, Cita, Parque Europa and Faro II.
For the INE in the Canary Islands, the balance sheet is the difference between favorable and unfavorable responses with respect to the completed quarter. In quarter 1 of 2024 it stood at 19 percentage points. Compared to the previous quarter, there was a change of 9,5% and therefore a year-on-year difference of 1,6%. The balance of expectations is the difference between favorable and negative responses regarding the coming quarter. For the next quarter there is a balance of 4,1%. This expectation differs from the previous period by -5,1% and 4,5% with respect to the same stage of the previous year.
