Gran Canaria once again serves as a set for large international productions, in this case for a new German audiovisual commitment
Thrillers are in fashion in the Canary Islands. After 'Hierro' and 'Una Vida Menos en Canarias' (which brought together more than a million spectators at its premiere), the islands once again host the filming of a police thriller. In this case Gran Canaria will be the lucky island, although as reported by the production companies, some specific scenes will also be recorded on other islands.
This is the series 'Weiss and Morales', which tells the story of a German detective who arrives in the Canary Islands to visit her mother, who lives on the islands, and who finally ends up staying to work with the Canarian detective Raúl Morales to solve a murder case.
The protagonist will be played by the Italian actress Katia Fellin and the Canarian detective by Miguel Ángel Silvestre, one of the most recognized actors on the national scene who has participated in series such as Velvet, La Casa de Papel, Sense8 or Sin Tetas No Hay Paraíso.
The German companies Nadcon, ZDF (German public television) and its production company ZDF Studios will be in charge of carrying out the production of the series together with the Spanish production company Portocabo, responsible for the production of the series 'Hierro', and Radio Televisión Española .
Precisely this series seeks to emulate the success of 'Hierro', which was sold and broadcast in 115 countries and will tour the main international festivals. In addition, its preview will be at the MIPCOM Festival in Cannes (France), in October 2024.
Like 'One Less Life in the Canary Islands' (series that we already talked about in Maspalomas24h), 'Weiss and Morales' goes beyond using the archipelago as a simple setting, letting the locations influence the development of the story and integrating its characters into the idiosyncrasy of the islands.
At the moment it is unknown which network will broadcast the series, but everything seems to indicate that it could be the new flagship of Spanish Television or the German public channel, ZDF.
