Does the ZBE in Maspalomas make sense if those in Las Palmas are kicked out of the apartments?

Does the ZBE in Maspalomas make sense if those in Las Palmas are kicked out of the apartments?

If the departure of people from Las Palmas who live in tourist apartments materializes, there are things that will change such as the number of inhabitants. This would help the south of Gran Canaria to get rid of that consulting business called Royal Decree 2024/1052 that regulates low-emission zones (ZBE) in 2022. It will coordinate the implementation of these spaces in the municipalities of the Canary Islands that have with more than 50.000 inhabitants. The south of Gran Canaria has received 100.434 euros for the "design and projection" of low-emission zones or access control to these areas, among others.

San Bartolomé de Tirajana has to implement it because, officially, it has more than 50.000 registered residents. The aforementioned legislative text obliges the municipality to develop its planning to promote energy efficiency in the use of means of transport, promote the change of model towards the use of more sustainable transport and meet the acoustic quality objectives.

A simplistic general director of Ecological Transition and Fight against Climate Change, Ángel Montañés, explains that “the objective is to improve the lives of the Canary Islands.” The CSIC does not have an air pollution control antenna, although Motañés says that he is "working on improving the environmental quality of the municipalities with the greatest pressure, while carrying out an effective fight against climate change."

For Montañés, the implementation of this type of measures "is essential given the saturation situation suffered by the most densely populated areas of our archipelago", to which he adds that "we will give the maximum possible support from the Ministry so that all municipalities comply with this royal decree as soon as possible, within the year 2024.” Some Canarian town councils have benefited from direct subsidies granted by the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Energy, intended to finance projects to implement low-emission zones in urban areas. Among them are the municipalities of Arrecife, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Arona and Granadilla de Abona.
