This Wednesday, the City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana completed the recovery work on the picnic and leisure areas of the Las Lagunas Recreational Park, in Tunte, after subjecting them to major restoration works for two and a half months to turn it into a recreational space. rest for families and pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago
The work began on January 24 and has been carried out directly by public workers from the municipal services of the Departments of Roads and Works and Parks and Gardens, directed by the eighth deputy mayor, Araceli Armas Cruz, and coordinated by the councilor delegate Eduardo Armas Herrera.
The works, quite important due to the enormous degradation of the equipment due to so many years of abandonment and lack of maintenance, have been aimed mainly at the complete restoration and recovery of the eight family areas of the picnic area. In them, the barbecues were completely redone, since they were in serious danger of collapsing, but the tables and benches were also rehabilitated, many of whose wood had disappeared for use in the barbecue pits, and the sinks were also fixed, to which which was provided with water and where all the supply taps and even the drainage pipes had to be replaced because they had been ripped out and stolen.
In addition, the 35 streetlights on the premises were fixed, 27 of which were completely inoperative; The outdoor gymnastics machinery was restored and ready for use; 10 new bins were installed; The multipurpose building that previously appeared in yellow was painted rustic white and its public bathrooms were repaired; and 25 new trees were planted, specifically pines, almond trees and Canary Island palm trees, in accordance with the vegetation that fills this leisure area in the midlands with green.
“The recovery and improvement actions in the park have been carried out due to the need to maintain the municipal public facility as it should, with the aim of returning it in perfect conditions of use to the population of San Bartolomé de Tirajana and the rest of the Island. as a family leisure space, also suitable as a resting place for pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago,” says the councilor delegate for Roads and Works and Parks and Gardens, Eduardo Armas Herrera.
The facility, which has a security guard and security cameras, is open every day of the year from seven in the morning until eight at night. It offers a free parking area for 26 vehicles and 5 buses.
