The SPAR Gran Canaria supermarket chain is once again, for the ninth consecutive year, one of the main sponsors of one of the largest events dedicated to local products; the Gran Canaria Me Gusta Fair, which celebrates its 11th edition from today until Sunday, April 21 at the Infecar Fairgrounds.
SPAR Gran Canaria, once again, demonstrates its unconditional support for the primary sector by launching a new stand, called 'Gran Canaria tastes like SPAR', in which the local product is once again the absolute protagonist, especially highlighting three local products for the that the chain makes a big bet: the potato grown in Gran Canaria, the tomato from La Aldea and the orange from Telde. The chain promotes the consumption of these three local products, along with the Valleseco reineta apple, through the agreements that the Gran Canaria supermarket chain signs each year with local farmers.
Visitors to the chain's stand will have a wide range of fruits and vegetables grown in Gran Canaria, among which they will find tomatoes from La Aldea, strawberries from Valsequillo, lettuces from Guía, potatoes from San Mateo, avocados from Mogán, carrots from Moya. , red peppers from Santa Lucía, zucchini from Telde, cucumbers from Santa Lucía and papayas grown in La Aldea. All of these local products, of 100% local origin, will be on sale at special prices during the fair. In addition, visitors who purchase these products will receive a gift from SPAR Gran Canaria for collaborating in supporting the island's primary sector. Thus, after exceeding 5.000 kilos of local products sold in the last edition of the fair, the Gran Canaria supermarket chain plans to market more than 6.000 kilos of an assortment of local products at its stand this year, thus promoting the consumption of fruits and vegetables. of kilometer zero among the population.
The great novelty that SPAR Gran Canaria will present within the framework of the fair will be its new food truck 'La SPARETA', which will offer proposals with locally sourced ingredients such as tomatoes from La Aldea, lettuce from Guía, onion from Gáldar or arugula from Telde, among others. The new food truck 'La SPARETA' will serve the public from 12:00 p.m. in the gastronomic area in Infecar during the three days of the fair with prices within everyone's reach.
Tastings, exhibitions and children's workshops
The group of Canarian merchants will also contribute to the development of the fair through two gastronomic exhibitions and the organization of the already traditional children's workshops, which each year bring the little ones closer to healthy eating based on the consumption of seasonal fruit.
These children's fruit art workshops will take place in four sessions during the first day of the fair, at 10:30, 12:30, 16:30 and 18:00. The children's workshop at 16:30 p.m. will be held together with several families from the Mi Hijo y Yo Association, which supports families with minors with Pervasive Developmental Disorder or Autism Spectrum Disorder. The chain regularly collaborates with the Association, inviting them on this occasion to participate for the second consecutive year in an activity in which the little ones are introduced to healthy eating.
On the other hand, the SPAR Gran Canaria group will once again be, for the second consecutive year, the official food supplier of all the children's workshops that will be held during the fair. The chain will thus provide all the products that will be used by the minor participants in the workshops guided by the winner of MasterChef Junior 10, Loreto Riera, accompanied by chef Alejandro de la Nuez.
Likewise, at the chain's stand there will be several tastings made with local products, offering visitors to try on Friday a tasting of San Mateo wrinkled potatoes with mojo, on Saturday some glasses of mole eggs and on Sunday some tomato zuritos from La Aldea and Canarian cheese.
SPAR Gran Canaria will also once again sponsor two gastronomic exhibitions led by Canarian chef Lolo Román, which will be held in pavilion 5 of Infecar. In the exhibitions, dishes will be prepared in which the local product will be the protagonist, showing in the exhibition “Gran Canaria tastes like a tomato”, on Friday the 19th starting at 16:00 p.m., the tomato recipes from La Aldea de Salmorejo of smoked Indian tuna with tomatoes, Tomatoes stuffed with shredded meat with its juice and smoked cheese sauce and Dulce Capresse: Tartar of tomatoes and strawberries on burrata foam with guide cheese and basil.
