The president of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales, presented together with the island councilor for the Environment, Climate, Energy and Knowledge, Raúl García Brink, the new communication campaign with which the island Government wants to raise awareness among visitors about the importance of respect the protected natural space of the Maspalomas dunes and remember the good practices necessary when doing so to improve the conservation of this emblematic ecosystem of the island and ensure that our passage through the dunes does not leave any impact.
'Your look, the only footprint' becomes a pioneering experience that aims to involve citizens and visitors in the challenge of caring for this unique space, located in a first-class tourist area.
The president of the Cabildo, Antonio Morales, explained that “the main objective of this campaign is to impact tourists staying in the area and the local population so that they know that they are in a unique space of high natural value and that it is necessary to protect it. ”.
Morales advocated working for increasingly sustainable tourism. “We have to increasingly focus on ways to minimize its environmental impact on our island, while maximizing the positive contributions of the tourism sector to the environment and our society,” he said.
For his part, the Minister of the Environment, Raúl García Brink, thanked the great reception that this idea has had among hoteliers, the Chamber of Commerce or the company that concessions the advertising spaces in the south, Monpex, and their willingness to collaborate. in spreading the message.
“The campaign will begin on May 2025 to impact visitors who come to the Maspalomas Gay Pride and will continue in the high tourist season, with its continuity planned for 001,” said García Brink, who pointed out that it will be found in media of the airport on the island, on Global line XNUMX, in the urban furniture around the dunes, in the Tourism offices and in the totems at the receptions and screens in the hotel rooms, which have expressed their incorporation into this Campaign.

The Maspalomas Dunes Reserve
The Maspalomas Dunes Reserve is a protected natural space of great fragility, with different problems such as the anthropization of the space, in which numerous practices are located that go against its conservation. Over time, problems such as erosion, the presence of waste, human intervention, the impact on biodiversity, unregulated access or tourist pressure have appeared, in addition to the phenomenon of influencers who break the regulations and call through from their social networks to imitate them.
“The care and preservation of this space for future generations is a task that falls to the entire Gran Canaria society,” said the president of the Cabildo, who explained that, from the Cabildo government team, environmental management measures have been implemented. and tourism that include environmental education, access regulation, waste management or habitat restoration in a determined commitment to the conservation and protection of this space, through projects such as MasDunas, the presence of Environmental Agents or More recently, the Impulsa Maspalomas project, with actions designed to recover the biodiversity of this space and the dune field itself.
