The International Sea Fair will celebrate its 13th edition on the 7,8th, 9th and XNUMXth, with a program focused on technology and marine biodiversity and the impact and potential of algae

The 13th edition of the International Sea Fair , FIMAR 2024 , will debut at a new location: the Sanapú Wharf, within the port area of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, between the Poema del Mar Aquarium and the Onda Atlántica Footbridge. This year's FIMAR will take place on June 7, 8, and 9 , with a program featuring a wide variety of topics focused on marine technology and biodiversity , as well as the impact and potential of algae.

The International Sea Fair is promoted by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria , the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council and the Port Authority of Las Palmas, in a fair organized by the City of the Sea Council of the city and Infecar, Feria de Gran Canaria.

This Friday, June 26th, the organizing committee held a meeting to discuss various aspects of FIMAR's development in this venue. The organizers of the fair, now established as the leading event for the marine and maritime sector in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and on the island of Gran Canaria, are currently working on designing and preparing the program, following the format of previous editions and reflecting the current trends in maritime-related sectors.

The plan will include a large representation of public institutions and private companies whose activity focuses on the blue economy , in addition to the usual displays of different vessels on the waters of the Port of Las Palmas, the presence of various sports clubs and the Canarian Latin Sail, introductory sailing experiences, and guided tours by land and sea within the port area. A special culinary offering completes a program capable of attracting thousands of people to each edition.

It should be noted that FIMAR's registration period for exhibitors remains open on its official website https://feriainternacionaldelmar.com/participa-en-fimar-2024 . In just over a week, some thirty organizations and companies have already registered.

In 2023, up to 56 public and private entities were able to show their content to the 18.000 attendees at the fair, in a forum conducive to energizing the important activity that maintains the blue economy in the city and the island.

Research and informative content

One of the great attractions of the International Sea Fair is its wide range of information dedicated to research and science linked to the sea. Exhibitions, talks and educational sessions each year make up a broad package of content aimed at citizens, which at FIMAR 2024 will focus particularly on technology and marine biodiversity, and the impact and potential of algae as a present and future resource.

This last field is one in which institutions such as the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), the Technological Institute of the Canary Islands (ITC) or the Spanish Bank of Algae , managed by the Canary Science and Technology Park Foundation of the university itself, are already carrying out important work.

The surroundings of Sanapú, in short, is the space chosen for next June to once again experience a true celebration of activities linked to the sea, with a leading presence reserved for the development of the blue economy, research, dissemination and citizen leisure.
