The cultural programming of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council for the month of May will start this weekend with two proposals from the Municipal Theater and Music Schools. On Friday the 3rd, the members of the youth theater classroom will perform the drama 'Blood Wedding', by Federico García Lorca, at the Maspalomas Cultural Center at 19.00:4 p.m. The reservation of free tickets can now be formalized at tureservaonline.es. For its part, the folklore classroom will offer a sample of its work on Saturday the 11th in the Parque Urbano del Sur, in the 'day of traditions' that will be held between 00:13 and 00:XNUMX, open to the enjoyment of All public.
The proposal formalized for Wednesday, May 8 by the Department of Culture directed by Elena Álamo Vega and coordinated by Esther Delgado Sánchez is cinematic. At 19:00 p.m. the Maspalomas Cultural Center hosts a cineforum session with the director and stars of the short film 'Benito', about the love story of Benito Pérez Galdós with Sisita. The 23-minute film, written and directed by Pedro Pérez, is based on the novel 'El gran amor de Galdós' by Santiago Gil, and was awarded for best script at the VI Fescilmar International Festival (Venezuela).
The other film screening of the month will take place at the Carmelo Pérez Rodríguez Cultural Center, in El Tablero, on Tuesday the 14th at 19.00:XNUMX p.m. It is part of the framework of the Festival of the Holy Trinity and is documentary in nature, expressly dedicated for just over an hour to the crafts of Gran Canaria and specifically to pottery, wool weaving, and the making of Canarian knives. and the draft.
The scenic dance proposal will be offered by the Maspalomas Ballet Studio on Wednesday, May 29 at the San Fernando Cultural Center, at 18:00 p.m. The entity closes its annual course with a charity gala whose entrance requires educational entertainment material (books, puzzles, crayons, games, hobbies...) intended for users of the Alejandro Da Silva Foundation against childhood leukemia. Students from 4 to 35 years old will offer the show 'La calle del arte', as a showcase of the different artistic disciplines (ballet, lyrical, acrodance, acrobatics, aerial hoop, hip hop, commercial and break dance), directed by Conchy Rodriguez.
On the other hand, the Plaza de San Fernando will host on Thursday, May 30, on the occasion of Canary Islands Day and the town's patron saint festivities, the celebration of the VIII Umiaya Festival, which in this edition will feature the participation of folkloric groups Umiaya and Vegueros de Tinamar, and the children's dance group of the Municipal Music School of Mogán.
Also on the occasion of the Canary Islands Day festivity, the cultural centers Pancho Guerra de Tunte, Cercados de Espino, Carmelo Pérez Rodríguez de El Tablero, Maspalomas, El Pajar, Castillo del Romeral, Aldea Blanca (headquarters of the Neighborhood Association) and Juan Grande, will host a special story-telling activity with crafts in the afternoon from May 15 to 29.
The cultural program for May is also referenced by the celebrations of the popular festivals of Aldea Blanca, San Fernando and El Tablero, whose event programs specifically include different initiatives from the Department of Culture.
