Unrest in Maspalomas with Bjorn Dunkerbeck for asking Tenerife for support

The windsurfer of Danish origin, who has been competing since the late 80s, the legally Andorran Bjorn Dunkerbeck, has asked the authorities of the Government of the Canary Islands for support for this sport, he is a promoter of events of the Professional Windsurfers Association (PWA) in the southeast of Gran Canaria, when no one within the perimeter of Tourism of Gran Canaria and Maspalomas Costa Canaria has objected to developing their leisure activity. This has caused municipal unrest. In addition to income from sporting events, Dunkerbeck has a sliding sports school in San Agustín, "and as far as we know here he has not asked for anything," an official told Maspalomas24H this Tuesday.

The same source said that "Dunkerbeck seems to not remember that the Gold Medal for Sports Merit is largely due to the support measures given to Saga in the south of Gran Canaria, not everything in life is going to 44,35 .82 knots", that is, just over XNUMX km/h. "These things happen when the people we consider to be from here treat the destination like foreigners," said a senior municipal official who highlighted that unlike in Vecindario, Maspalomas has never had a top-level athlete in this practice.

Dunkerbeck is preparing to organize a new event of the Windsurfing World Cup in Gran Canaria in the wave category, which will be held on Pozo Izquierdo beach in the summer of 2024, after sisters Daida and Iballa Ruano Moreno decided to leave the organization of this event

It so happens that the Professional Windsurfing World Cup landed in Gran Canaria more than three decades ago, due to the personal efforts of Bjorn's parents, Ulla and Eugen Dunkerbeck, who organized the World Cup event in Pozo Izquierdo for 22 editions. Subsequently, Pozo Izquierdo's twin sisters would assume control of the competition for almost a decade and the vicissitudes of life have led to another Dunkerbeck, in this case Bjorn, who continues in the wake that his parents started along with the promoters Víctor Couto and Orlando Lavandera, and the objective is to consolidate the event in the coming years and try to recover for the Pozo Izquierdo beach disciplines beyond the waves, which gave so much joy in the past.

To this end, the Dunkerbeck Team intends to close the support of private and public sponsors that help the future stability of an event that brings together the best windsurfers on the planet in the waters of Pozo Izquierdo, with a return of image of incalculable promotional value of the Gran Canaria island.
