Mogán: Bueno stands up to CC and looks for a way out of the party in the ecotax

"The town councils are of legal age and there is article 25 of the Law of Local Regime Bases and they do not have to tell me how I have to design my municipality." The previous sentence is the property of the mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, in relation to vacation homes. This May 2 she announced that she will put an ecotax in her municipality because she has legal powers to do so. Until now, Bueno had contributed 1.500 votes to the Canary Coalition (CC) and zero local alliances from her party Juntos Por Mogán.

The one who was opting to be the insular leader of CC with her local party has located on two fronts the departure of the formation led by Fernando Clavijo in Tenerife and Pablo Rodríguez in Gran Canaria, which she wanted to raise to the air with the support of local forces. CC and PP defend applying criteria for increasing fiscal pressure by area but well, contrary to the consensus that exists for example in Maspalomas, where the pact is formed by PP and CC, it has been established on its own. Well, it cannot be filed because it is not a member of CC.

There are two measures: one was the rejection of the holiday home model and now the ecotax defended by environmental groups, NC and PSOE. The announcement came after Maspalomas24H announced that the CC leadership has closed ranks so that it does not escalate and, therefore, so that Alejandro Marichal, CC in Maspalomas, has a free hand to organize the nationalist formation and in the medium term a union agreement with NC.

At the moment, JPM has asked the municipal company Gestiona, which is like the local AEAT, for a study to approve a tourist tax per overnight stay in 2025. According to the analysis that is being carried out, the average tourist tax is around at 2,5% or 3%, which would mean, if applied in the municipality, an annual collection of about 2 million euros.
