The Provincial Court of Las Palmas has confirmed sentences of up to 16 years for the members of a criminal organization dedicated to importing and distributing cocaine. The organization, which had 31 members, imported and distributed hashish and cocaine on the island and since 2016 was investigated by the UDYCO of Las Palmas.
The organization distributed the drugs through a tourist bus company that operated both within the island and among the rest of the archipelago and in which one of the convicted persons transported cocaine and hashish. In addition, they had an industrial warehouse in Agüimes where they parked their vehicles and used them as a logistics center for their distribution.
The organization had completely controlled its operations both when it came to transporting the drugs from the peninsula, where one of the convicts organized the transportation, and when it came to receiving the merchandise on the island. Each of the convicts had a specific role within the organization; from trusted people to collect cash to recruiters to transport the merchandise.
The UDYCO investigations during 2016 gave the green light for the agents to enter a hotel in the south of Gran Canaria on December 25 of that same year where two of the members of the organization were staying and where 469.250 euros in cash were seized. from drug trafficking.
The following months the searches and arrests continued, in which various vehicles, cash and mobile phones were seized. In January 2018, agents detained 6 members of the gang while they were unloading 46 bales on a beach near the Martorell ravine, in Gáldar.
The sentences of the 31 convicted range from 16 and a half years in prison and fines of 15 million euros for crimes against public health for one of the main leaders of the group to the lowest sentence, 6 years in prison and a fine of 40.000. euros for another of those convicted of the same crime.
