The Minister of the Environment, Raúl García Brink, and the vice president of the Gran Canaria Chamber of Commerce, Santiago de Armas, present the campaign in an open round table
The initiative includes training actions with receptionists and tourist guides on the values of this protected space
The Minister of Environment, Climate, Energy and Knowledge of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Raúl García Brink, together with the vice president of the Chamber of Commerce of Gran Canaria, Santiago de Armas, presented the awareness campaign 'Your look, the only footprint' in an open round table with the aim of joining forces with different sectors of society in the care of the Protected Natural Space of the Maspalomas Dunes.
García Brink stated that "the collaboration of the tourism sector is very important to be able to transmit relevant and truthful information about the values of the Maspalomas dunes and, consequently, achieve greater awareness for the conservation of this natural space."
With this objective, the Cabildo intends to expand the impact of the campaign with training actions for receptionists and tourist guides that influence the values of this protected natural space and the good practices that must be observed within it.
“The campaign is already underway and we can see it on different supports at the island's airport, on Global line 001, on the street furniture around the dunes, in the Tourism offices, and we want it to start to be seen now. also on the totem poles at the receptions and screens in the hotel rooms, so we appreciate the sector's incorporation into this campaign,” added the counselor.

For his part, Santiago de Armas pointed out that “from the Chamber of Commerce we have wanted to position ourselves as a meeting point between the business and political sectors, and in this specific case, with the environmental area.”
In addition, he highlighted the importance of "that the tourist receives prior information through the receptionists, especially those spaces that are linked or close to the Maspalomas dunes, to achieve appropriate use."
In this sense, he was convinced that "once the visitor knows the origin and the need for protection of the space, he will act accordingly."
Maspalomas dunes reserve
The 'Your look, the only footprint' campaign began on May 2025 with the aim of impacting visitors who attend Gay Pride in Maspalomas and will continue in the high tourist season, with its continuation planned for XNUMX.
The Maspalomas Dunes Reserve is a protected natural space of great fragility, with different problems such as the anthropization of the space, in which numerous practices are located that go against its conservation.
Over time, problems such as erosion, the presence of waste, human intervention, the impact on biodiversity, unregulated access or tourist pressure have appeared. Added to this is the phenomenon of influencers who fail to comply with the regulations and call through their social networks to imitate them.
The initiative thus becomes a pioneering experience that aims to involve citizens and visitors in the challenge of caring for this unique space, located in a prime tourist area.
