Rain of 'Color' at Casa Saturninita

 

The delegate councilor for Education and Culture, Esther Delgado Sánchez, inaugurated this Tuesday the 'Color' exhibition that the 1st and 2nd year Baccalaureate Art students of the IES Támara offer to the public at the Casa Saturninita Art Center, in San Fernando de Maspalomas , until next May 27.

 

The exhibition, set up like a rain of drawings, houses fifty of the painting works that these students, who have also been joined by several 3rd year ESO students, have been carrying out during this second quarter of the course in their learning classes on the resources of watercolor, acrylic, mixed techniques, markers and colored pencils, and even the use of white on black.

 

The theme of the works has been left to the free imagination and will of the 30 young participants, hence many drawings of manga conception are shown among them, but also numerous still lifes and technical study works on the human body that their authors have used as experiences of evaluation exams for access to the University (EBAU).

 

Professors Ramón Torres Rodríguez and Javier González Vega, specialists in design classes and techniques of graphic-plastic expression and drawing, respectively, highlighted the importance of these exhibitions for the students, “because it allows them to publicly display their work and, in addition , contribute to strengthening their security and self-esteem in the face of fear and doubts about the quality and convenience of their own works.” 

 

 

Second of the year

 

This is the second pictorial exhibition that the IES Támara Art Baccalaureate students hold this year in the Alpendre Room of the Casa Saturninita. In the previous one, last January, the young people already offered another collective exhibition on tonal assessment exercises and the different techniques of graphic expression with charcoal, Indian inks, gouache, false engraving, watercolors and colored pencils. They titled it 'Ink & Pencil... and something else', and it focused mainly on representations of portraits, landscapes and animal figurations.

 

Also last April, the Drawing and Plastic Arts students at IES Amurga offered a multidisciplinary artistic assembly in the same exhibition room with a selection of the works developed during the course individually and collaboratively. It was titled 'About diversity', responding to the multicultural mix of nationalities and languages ​​that enriches the classrooms of said educational center. Students from all levels of the Institute participated in the exhibition curated by teachers Cynthia Rodríguez and Mónica Ordóñez, from 1st year of ESO to 2nd year of Baccalaureate, also including students from the Aula Enclave. The exhibition included works made in different formats and artistic techniques such as photography, ceramics, collage, illustration, drawing and sculpture. That exhibition was part of the list of activities that the Institute programmed within its cultural week.

 

All these student exhibitions are part of the work plan and permanent collaboration that the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council maintains with the educational centers of the municipality through the Departments of Education and Culture. Its leaders, the second deputy mayor Elena Álamo Vega, and the councilor delegate, Esther Delgado Sánchez, plan to create a specific circuit of exhibitions starring Arts students from the municipality's secondary schools.
