The existence of revulsion towards the presence of tourists on the islands as the cause of the saturation of Tenerife does not reach tourists in the form of aggression but rather understanding. Ving has assured that "we have not received any comments about our guests feeling uncomfortable," says Claes Pellvik, communications director at Ving. Adam Györki from TUI further believes that these are different types of tourism in which rental companies carry out controlled tourism that is governed by the number of hotel places available. "Then we have this individual tourism where apartments are used as holiday accommodation and therefore accommodation for local people is reduced. They drive up housing prices, and that is not good. Access to housing is vital for the local population," says Adam Györki.
Claes Pellvik, communications director at Ving, does not believe that the current protests will lead Swedes to choose the Canary Islands. "I don't see that trend, the Swedes' love for the Canary Islands is very deep-rooted and I am convinced that the highest political order has this high on the agenda," he says. "We haven't noticed any major concerns among our guests. There have been a few questions from travelers who have booked future trips, but they haven't been many," Pellvik said. Before the demonstrations, Ving sent information to travelers who were in the Canary Islands at that time. "We sent text messages to everyone informing them that demonstrations were planned. We briefly described what it was about, that there is discontent with the way tourism policy is being carried out," the operator told the Nordic press.
"The criticism is mainly about the policy that is being implemented: local people find it difficult to get affordable housing, local traffic is congested, etc. I can understand how people react to that." TUI has also not noticed concern among the company's passengers. "We have followed these protests closely, but we have not received any significant reaction from people present or who will travel there in the future," said Adam Györki, TUI's Nordic communications director.
