The sad closure of the Swedish Church in the south of Gran Canaria

The Swedish Church in the south of Gran Canaria is already a warehouse of Ikea boxes with the things that have been used in the last 37 years in order to give spiritual help to the Nordic community of San Agustín. That doesn't mean the congregation disappears.

In the fall a priest will be hired who will be in Maspalomas for a permanent position and will celebrate services and weddings in the Catholic Church in the San Agustín Shopping Center, Templo Ecumenico and in the Tourist Church in Las Palmas.

If the congregation finds a suitable location, the Church of Sweden will once again have its prayer center. On April 27 was the last mass in the church of San Agustín. It was a nice end to a 37-year presence in the Rocas Rojas area. After mass, the Swedes sat down to eat a cake and remember all the beautiful things their church has given them. Both sadness and joy were present.
