More than 400 runners participated this Saturday in the popular race that ran through some of the most emblematic places in the municipality.
More than 400 runners participated this Saturday in the seventh edition of the Lagartrail, the popular Agüimes mountain race that runs through some of the most emblematic, although little traveled, natural sites of the municipality. The participants started from the Auditorium Theater to take a circular route that ended at the same point in the historic center of Agüimes. El Alto de Cabrera, El Altillo, El Montañón and Lomo del Peladero were some of the places where he passed the test.

The sports competition, which sold out all its available places, had three distances: a short race of 6 kilometers, in which young athletes from the age of 12 could participate, an average of 11 kilometers and a long race of 17 kilometers, These last two are exclusively for people over 18 years of age.
The participants had to ascend from the town of Agüimes in the direction of Pajonales. The longest route involved about 7 kilometers of ascent, skirting the Guayadeque ravine until reaching 1.131 meters of maximum altitude. Subsequently, the runners covered another 10 kilometers of descent, leaving Temisas on the right and crossing the ravines of La Capellanía, La Manga and Barafonso, before returning to the urban center of Agüimes. In total there were 876 meters of positive slope and, as it was a circular route, another 876 meters of negative slope.

The Auditorium Theater square was the place where the services to the corridor were concentrated, such as the left luggage room, the toilets and the rest and recovery areas. Also in the same space, the trophies were presented to the winners and a great paella was served that helped the athletes regain their strength.
The winner of the long distance was Manuel Padrón, who completed the route in 1 hour, 30 minutes and 17 seconds, while the first classified in the medium distance was José Salazar, a runner who completed the route in 50 minutes and 8 seconds. Finally, the short distance category was led by athlete Oliver Zerpa, who managed to reach the finish line in just 28 minutes and 14 seconds.
