The tourist destination of Gran Canaria will have a reinforcement in its connectivity with the United Kingdom and Germany thanks to the commitment of EasyJet from London Southend airport and with Ryanair from the Frankfurt Hahn aerodrome in Germany. This responds to the increase in British and German clients seen in the island destination since last year.

The British airline EasyJet has announced that it will open a new base at London Southend International Airport and will begin operating a new route to Gran Canaria from this location from spring 2025. The island destination will have an increase in connectivity and will form part of the bet that is reduced since there will only be six routes that have been announced, Gran Canaria being the only one in Spanish territory, along with Antalya and Dalaman in Turkey; Enfidha, in Tunisia, and Marrakech and Pisa, in Morocco and Italy. The first flights are already scheduled for May 1 and customers can now book flights through the British company's website.

On the other hand, Ryanair has also increased its connectivity with the island of Gran Canaria for the winter season of 2024 and 2025. In this case, the Irish airline has reported that it is reopening the route between Frankfurt Hahn, which was closed in March 2019. .

“These are two reinforcements that increase the good moment in connectivity and reservations from the United Kingdom and Germany,” said the Tourism Minister of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Carlos Álamo. He explained that the increase in travel options and routes opened in recent years is allowing prices and costs to travel to Gran Canaria to spend their holidays, which benefits the destination because the client has a larger budget. to spend on their stay and thereby increase turnover and the island economy, as has already been confirmed in the tourist spending report for the first quarter of 2024.”
