Mogán will celebrate San Antonio 'El Chico' from June 7 to 16
The Patron Saint Festivals of the municipality once again feature four years later with one of its main stages, the Nicolás Quesada park

The program of events for the Patron Saint Festivities of San Antonio 'El Chico' 2024 was presented this Friday by the mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, and the Councilor for Culture and Celebrations, Mencey Santana. From June 7 to 16, the streets of the historic center and the El Mocán Cultural Center will be dressed up for events such as the XIII Juan José Rodríguez Memorial, the Pilgrimage-Offering to San Antonio El Chico, the procession in honor of the Patron, as well as concerts , festivals, craft markets, children's activities, contests and exhibitions.
The Nicolás Quesada Park has been the place chosen to present the programming. “This is where we traditionally celebrate the proclamation, the Juan José Rodríguez Memorial and the offerings to the Saint on the day of the Pilgrimage, but as everyone knows, first due to the pandemic and then due to the works for its comprehensive reform, four years have already passed since that we live that image. “We are happy to recover this space,” said the mayor.
Bueno thanked “all the neighborhood groups and the parish community for the joint work they do with the City Council” to achieve a program that all residents can enjoy, but also people who visit the municipality. The objective, he stressed, is “to combine tradition, culture and leisure, hoping that our celebrations, so highly valued on the island and in the Archipelago, continue to gain followers who share with us, the Moganeros and Moganeras.”
The mayor has announced that the Festivities of San Antonio 'El Chico' will begin on Friday, June 7, with the proclamation offered by Adelheid Viera Sosa, known in the municipality as Adi. “She is German by birth but Canarian at heart,” she said, remembering that she dedicated more than 25 years of her professional life as a nurse in the health centers and medical offices of the municipality. “In addition to her professionalism, she has also left her heart in Mogán, earning the affection of everyone,” she stated.
The opening event will take place in the Nicolás Quesada Park, which will then also host the thirteenth Juan José Rodríguez Memorial, which will feature Pinito la del Norte as presenter and with the participation of the El Mocán Folkloric and Cultural Group – from Mogán – , the La Sabinosa Folkloric Group –El Hierro–, and the Dunas de Corralejo Folkloric Group –Fuerteventura–. The first evening of the festivities will conclude with the 'Young Night' in which several DJs will perform.
Bueno and Councilor Santana have thanked all the people, groups and municipal departments who, with their collaboration, make these celebrations possible. Likewise, they have extended their invitation to all Gran Canarian men and women to enjoy the ten days of festivities, emphasizing the importance of coming dressed correctly in traditional clothing to the Pilgrimage-Ofrenda of San Antonio 'El Chico'. People who do not meet this requirement will not be able to participate in the tour.

The Councilor for Culture and Celebrations, Mencey Santana, has detailed the rest of the events of the Patron Saint Festivities, which after the proclamation and the memorial will continue on Saturday, June 8 with the Pilgrimage-Offering to San Antonio 'El Chico'. The municipality's groups will participate, as they are already preparing the carts with picturesque motifs that identify this traditional celebration, one of the longest on the island.
The Rosemary Mass will also be celebrated sung by the 'Buchito de Café' party, after which the same image of the Saint will come out to the porch of the Church and, guarded by the La Sabinosa Folklore Group, will go to the Nicolás Quesada Park to receive the offerings. Once the pilgrimage is over, there will be Taifa Dance with the Parranda El Pajullo and Los Chanos in the same park. There will also be a festival with Paco Guedes and DJ Promaster in Plaza Sarmiento y Coto.
Starting on Sunday, June 9, the program will continue with traditional children's games, musical and sports exhibitions, tournaments, numerous activities for the youngest members of the family, festivals, concerts and a craft market. It is worth highlighting on Tuesday the 11th the volleyball exhibition by CD Mogán Voleibol and 'Your best sunset', consisting of guided and free classes in different sports disciplines, as well as the Escala en Hi-fi Children's gala at the El Mocán Cultural Center.
On June 12, what is known as 'Vespers Night' will be enlivened by a tribute concert to the artist Camilo. When the clock reaches midnight there will be the fireworks display and the festival will begin with Armonía Show and DJ Maxi.
On June 13, the Day of San Antonio El Chico, the solemn Eucharist will be celebrated followed by the procession, which will end with the blessing of the bread and lilies and the popular Canto de los Pajaritos, symbol and cultural history of the Moganero people. As a novelty, after the religious ceremonies there will be a popular toast and a performance by Mariachi Peleón in Plaza Sarmiento y Coto. That same afternoon the Escala en Hi-fi gala for adults will be held, in which the Artistic Schools will also participate.
The last weekend of these celebrations will begin at 18:00 p.m. on Friday, June 14, with the closing of the Municipal Sports Schools course. From then on, San José Street will be the protagonist, hosting the Tribute to Mecano and the festival with Furia Joven and Adrián Pro DJ.
Also in this enclave of the historic center, on Saturday the 15th, the family play park with water inflatables, the Bajada de La Rama with La Charanga La Aldea and the Banda de Agaete, and a festival with Star Music, Grupo Aguaje and DJ Cholo will be held.
The Fiestas de San Antonio 'El Chico' will say goodbye until next year with a great craft market with the entertainment of 'Orquesta La Mayork', 'Maldita EGB' and 'Los Lola' from the two stages that will be installed at the ends from San José Street. The activity will begin at 13:00 p.m. and will last until 21:00 p.m.
Santana has reported that San José Street will be closed for the Pilgrimage-Ofrenda on Saturday, June 8, as well as from June 13 to 17 for the development of the aforementioned events.
