The San Fernando de Maspalomas Festival will begin this Thursday, May 23, and will last until June 02, with a very special commemoration, the 50th Anniversary of the CEIP San Fernando de Maspalomas (better known as Maspalomas I). The importance of this educational center lies in the fact that San Fernando is the origin of the residential part of the South of Gran Canaria and a large part of today's society has completed its first studies in this center, which celebrated its first school year in 1973-1974. For this reason, the presentation of the festival program took place in one of the Center's classrooms, led by the mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez; the Councilor for Celebrations and Events, Yilenia Vega; and the director of the CEIP San Fernando de Maspalomas, Germán Cristo Silva.
The mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana highlighted that given the importance of the 50 years of the educational center, “a center that has meant so much to the population of San Fernando, it is logical that they are the ones who proclaim the festivities.” For his part, the director of the CEIP remembered the recently deceased, Ángel Ocaña, director for many years since the construction of the Center, as well as the seven who have succeeded him in the position. “This school has always evolved positively, getting to know the teachers, families and students who are part of the School of My Life. Among the milestones achieved by this center, the implementation of the continuous day in the school schedule stood out or the installation of the beach bar during the San Fernando festivities "where money was not only raised to pay for the end-of-year trip, but it also served as a place meeting place for the entire educational community, which allowed parents, students and teachers to enjoy coexistence in a relaxed atmosphere.”
For her part, the Councilor for Celebrations and Events, Yilenia Vega, outlined the program of events as well as the new features that have been included in the celebrations this year. She pointed out that the proclamation will take place on Thursday, May 23, at 20:30 p.m.; In it there will be a tour of the experiences, "as well as the small and big changes experienced by the former teachers of the San Fernando School of Maspalomas." It will be at the Maspalomas House of Culture where at the end, attendees will be able to enjoy the Asentaos y Tumbaos performance.
The Canarian Juerga will be on Friday the 24th, starting at 21:00 p.m. with Masparranda. “This event is already a classic of the celebrations within the Fiestas, where the town of San Fernando hosts a night to share local products with the neighbors and enjoy the musical performances of folklore groups from the municipality such as Parranda El Cañizo, Parranda Las Dunas, and the Municipal Music School,” said Vega. Meanwhile, at 22:00 p.m., the Young People's Night will begin in the Plaza de San Fernando where there will be a fashion show by the Glamor Models Canarias Agency with the designs of Raysadot Couture; Then the party continues with DJs Yediel, Abien Reyes, and J.Marre.
