Program of the San Fernando de Maspalomas Festivities 2024
Maspalomas today celebrated its ofrenda-pilgrimage in honor of San Fernando, renewing its route and increasing the participation of carts, groups and pilgrims who have been part of the procession. At 18:00 p.m., four carts with their respective Folklore Groups left the Plaza de Timanfaya. From very early on they tuned their instruments and began to burn the charcoal and light their plates with which to cook the pork, the kebabs or the chops that they distributed along the way to the pilgrims, and shared with the curious who were distributed on both sides of the streets through which the procession passed. The menu did not lack hard-boiled eggs, local cheese, sponge cake or, of course, wrinkled potatoes.
After the starting chupinazo, the four participating carts left to the sound of folkloric groups that provided the soundtrack for the entire route. Thus, the Isas, Folías, Malagueñas... permeated the streets of Mogán, Avenida de Tunte, de Gáldar, Calle Hernández González, and Avenida de Tejeda until they reached the Plaza de San Fernando.
The afternoon featured the participation of people who, dressed in traditional clothing, participated in the tour that was led by the El Coche de Hora cart, with the group El Cañizo; El Tablero the Roca Canaria Group and its dance group Horizonte Maspalomas; the Telde 'La Tartana' float with the Tartaneros; El Patronato (San Fernando) with the folklore group La Parranda Las Dunas; and the La Quesera cart with the group Los Fiesteros. The Folkloric Group brightened the entire route with traditional Canarian music and after arriving at the Plaza de San Fernando the groups of pilgrims, associations and groups deposited their offering in front of the door of the Church of San Fernando, an offering that will be delivered to Cáritas.
The Councilor for Celebrations and Events, Yilenia Vega, highlighted the importance of the people of San Fernando wanting to increase their participation this year and that “they come on a day like this to celebrate with their neighbors and family this popular festival that has been losing its roots.” with the years.
