San Bartolomé de Tirajana waiting for the principle of agreement between the parties of the hammock service

MASPALOMAS24H Wednesday, May 29, 2024

The Beach Councilor of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, Yilenia Vega (CC), in response to the strike notice issued by the FSOC union demanding improvements in the working conditions of the hammock service staff, clarifies that "since the entry of this government into June 2023, and although the Administration is not a party to this negotiation, meetings have been held with the personnel delegates and the company in order to mediate and ensure that the parties reach an agreement to improve salary conditions and renew their time, an agreement that has expired since 2013.”

Vega indicates that in the last meeting, held on May 13, the company and workers agreed to present a principle of agreement with which the City Council could assess whether it is budgetarily viable. “To date, this principle of agreement that they were supposed to provide has not been presented.” The councilor explains that after the meeting held with the members who make up the negotiating tables, the intended improvements consist of a salary increase of 250 euros per month, for the year 2024 and subsequent revisions based on the real CPI as of the previous December 31; recover the allowance for a holiday worked; a reduction in working hours to 39 hours per week by 2024, 38 hours by 2025 and 37 hours by 2026; reduce to 2.000 days worked, to obtain the right to a permanence bonus; and an extra danger from sun exposure of 123 euros.

The councilor regrets that these workers have been in the same situation for 14 years, since they have not been given a solution in previous mandates. Since 2013, the City Council has not initiated any procedure to put out to tender this service, which remains precarious 11 years later, Vega points out; who also remembers that the previous government tried to municipalize the service without reaching consensus by presenting “a botched file to the plenary session” to try to entrust management to the municipal company Emursa. Vega indicates that this point was removed from the agenda in the November 2021 plenary session due to defects in form and content and that since then, the management of the service was forgotten. For this reason, "since the beginning of our government we have intervened as a mediating party in this conflict, which we hope can be resolved for the benefit of all," concludes the councilor.
