The 'Canariona' Festival of the Cabildo is overflowing with Canarian heritage

 

The heart of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria today became the setting for the 'Canariona' festival, an annual event promoted by the Cabildo uninterruptedly for six years to celebrate Canary Islands Day and where music and culture with island roots exercise as an instrument to reinforce the feeling of Canaridad, identity and belonging to an Atlantic archipelago, as stressed today by the President of the Government of the island, Antonio Morales.

 

 

 

'Canariona' began playing on Calle Triana at 18.30:101 p.m. with the performance of the group 'XNUMX Brass Band', arrived from Tenerife, and the party 'Araguaney', from Telde. The musical parade ended in the Plaza de Santa Ana, where comedian Kike Pérez and the Lajalada group participated.

 

The Tenerife rapper Sara Socas and the Gran Canaria rapper and composer La Pantera also gave free rein to their art on the stage displayed in the space located between the Cathedral of the Canary Islands and the Town Hall. The repertoire was completed with an outstanding sample of decades of artistic work by Braulio, the international singer of Gran Canaria origin.

 

This event, promoted by the Island Corporation, has been organized by the Canary Islands Fair Institution (Infecar), with the collaboration of the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and lasted until one in the morning.

 

The show once again accommodated the diversity of musical and cultural sensibilities of Gran Canaria and the Canary Islands, recognizing at the same time the local creators who have forged a history over the last decades and who are part of the collective feeling of the population, while offering a speaker to those who are carving out a future in the world of music and popular culture.

 

 

In this way, 'Lajalada' made clear its panoramic musical vision, which incorporates traditional music with new musical airs, mixing pop, island folklore and the electronic avant-garde.

 

Meanwhile, the Tenerife rapper Sara Socas and the Gran Canaria rapper and composer La Pantera enveloped the audience with their rhythms and lyrics before it was the turn of the ballads and melodic music starring the unmistakable voice of Braulio, a native of Santa María de Guide and that days before the event, in the presentation, he had declared the following: “Returning to Gran Canaria to perform is always a great satisfaction and even a challenge, because I have to win back people that I have not approached for a while. time".

 

 

The iconography of the evening was marked by the lines of the poster announcing 'Canariona 2024'. The design of the work was inspired by the surrealist movement of Óscar Domínguez, with the sinuous and at the same time firm and sarcastic presence of the camels of Néstor Martín Fernández de la Torre, thus combining elements of the island's culture and idiosyncrasy, present in the imagination. insular.

 

In this way, image and sound embraced each other in the Plaza de Santa Ana to project to the skies of day, dusk and finally night, the profile and echo of a Gran Canaria that is both local and universal, always different, with an eye on the past and the future.
