The strong smell of drugs raised the suspicions of the municipal patrol that was carrying out a traffic control during the celebration of the San Fernando pilgrimage.
Agents of the Local Police Corps of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council arrested a 25-year-old man on May 30 for an alleged crime against public health, for carrying in the trunk of the vehicle he was driving a garbage bag with almost a kilo of marijuana. It was the smell of the drug that gave him away and led to his arrest.
The arrest occurred around 19:15 p.m., during a routine traffic control that the Local Police established at the intersection of Gáldar and Tirajana avenues, on the occasion of the celebration of the Pilgrimage in the town of San Fernando de Maspalomas.
The municipal agents stopped the detainee to verify that the vehicle he was driving, a black Mercedes, met all the requirements required to circulate with a foreign license plate.
It was when approaching the car to request the driver's personal documentation when the agents noticed the strong smell of marijuana coming from inside the car.
Given this circumstance, the local agents urged the driver, HK of British nationality, to get out of the car to search him, initially seizing a shoulder bag with a small transparent plastic bag containing the same drug, and a can of a well-known English mustard. also with marijuana inside.
This fact and the persistent smell motivated the opening of the trunk of the vehicle, where the municipal agents found the white garbage bag with 870 grams of drugs that the detainee himself recognized as his property to the police.
After informing him about the reasons for the arrest and his rights, the Local Police officers took the detainee to the premises of the Maspalomas National Police Station.
