The second deputy mayor and councilor for the Presidency, Culture and Education, Elena Álamo Vega, assumes the investigation and defense of the file ordered by Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez. The nomination, which has the unanimous support of the entire Corporation, will be submitted on Thursday for approval by the Plenary Session.

 

The City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana will posthumously designate the former director of the Municipal Music School, Noé Peña Rodríguez, as Favorite Son of the municipality, who died unexpectedly on October 29, 2022 at the age of 46.

 

This appointment proposed by Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez will be submitted for approval by the Plenary Session of the Municipal Corporation in its ordinary session this Thursday, although it has already received the unanimous support of all political groups in the previous information commission.

 

The file of honors and distinctions for this appointment has been instructed by the second deputy mayor and councilor responsible for the area of ​​Presidency, Education and Culture, Elena Álamo Vega, who proposes the accreditation of Noé Peña as Favorite Son of San Bartolomé de Tirajana " for having achieved extraordinary relevance and consideration by citizens for their valuable human qualities and personal and professional merits in the field of arts and culture, with unequivocal dedication for the benefit and exaltation of the municipality."

 

In her proposal, Elena Álamo insists on the relevance of Noé Peña as a musician in this municipality, where he performs a transcendental task as a teacher in different areas and also as a conscientious and thorough researcher of folk and traditional music.

 

Noé Peña trained as a Senior Professor of Piano, Music Theory, Music Theory, Transposition and Accompaniment at the Superior Conservatory of Music of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and acted as director of the Municipal School of Music in two stages, from 2003 to 2007 and from 2009 to 2022, although his incorporation began in 1998 as a folklore monitor. 

 

Musical biography

 

In his musical biography his membership in 'Los Gofiones' since 2008 stands out; the musical direction of the pulse and plectrum orchestra of the Municipal School of Music; his active participation in the Music Band of the same institution as a trombone player in the brass section; the direction of the musical group Azaygo, dedicated to traditional and popular Canarian folklore; the musical direction of the groups 'Las Dunas de Maspalomas' and Los Horcones de El Tablero between 2009 and 2011 and, among others, the creation and direction of the Umiaya Folkloric Group in 2019.

 

Peña Rodríguez also edited and published three musical books: 'Parrandeando con el timple', 'Parrandeando con el úd' and 'Parrandeando con la guitar', and in 2019 he was the precursor of the Raíces Conference and Prize for Ethnography and Folklore that took place They celebrate in Maspalomas.

 

“Noé was a firm defender of Canarian music and a pioneer in the study of traditional songs related to the world of sharecropping. His tireless drive and involvement in the musical and artistic projects of the municipality make him worthy and deserving of his appointment as Favorite Son,” highlights Elena Álamo.
