'ImpulsaMaspalomas' seeks to improve the diversification of markets and the adaptability of the tourist area by highlighting the natural heritage of Las Dunas
Sidi Consultoría y Gestión SLU will be in charge of coordinating the actions of this project based on sustainability and environmental restoration
The Cabildo of Gran Canaria has awarded, through the Insular Energy Council (CIEGC), the technical assistance that will be responsible for developing the Tourism Sustainability Plan in Destination ImpulsaMaspalomas to the company Sidi Consultoría y Gestión SLU for an amount of 217.949,41, XNUMX euros.
The ImpulsaMaspalomas plan is endowed with 5,5 million euros of Next Generation European funds and seeks to improve the diversification of tourism markets and products, improve the resilience capacity of the tourist area by highlighting the natural heritage of Las Dunas, as well as incorporating sustainability as a basic principle. Their tasks include coordinating and scheduling their actions, which will consist of environmental restoration projects, signage, sensorization, renewables, waste separation, training and electric mobility, among others.
The Minister of Environment, Climate, Energy and Knowledge of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Raúl García Brink, stated that “with the creation of this technical office we will optimize the execution of the different lines of action of this project, based on sustainability and resilience. , and that will be crucial for the future of our main tourist area. ImpulsaMaspalomas will reduce our ecological footprint and promote more responsible tourism, combining innovation and respect for the environment,” he stressed.
The technical office will work for a period of two and a half years, although an extension of another four semesters is contemplated, until the development of this plan is completed.
The Island Energy Council will be in charge of coordinating the Tourism Sustainability Plan, in which the Ministry of the Environment, Tourism Gran Canaria, the Society for the Development of Telecommunications of Gran Canaria are also involved; the Maspalomas Consortium and the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, as well as the Island Energy Council itself, which will carry out different tasks.
Performances included in ImpulsaMaspalomas
The general objective of ImpulsaMaspalomas is to improve the resilience capacity of the tourist area of Maspalomas Costa Canaria in the short and medium term, mainly through the enhancement of the existing natural heritage and the tourist resource of the dunes as the backbone. Through these actions, the green reputation of the island's most important destination is improved through a proposal in which sustainability and digital transformation are combined to enrich its tourism products.
The actions are structured around four axes: green and sustainable transition, improvement of energy efficiency, digital transition and competitiveness.
The Tourism Sustainability Plan contemplates actions such as the installation of photovoltaic panels in parking lots and public infrastructure on beaches, the reduction of light pollution and water consumption, the installation of charging points for electric vehicles or the construction of a bicycle lane. on the Meloneras promenade.
The environmental restoration of the Maspalomas Dunes Special Reserve will also be carried out, waste management will be improved with special attention to the beaches and urban drainage will be carried out to reduce and treat stormwater runoff in the Maspalomas Pond environment. . In addition, the use of renewable energy sources will be promoted in infrastructures that provide tourist services and the saturation of the destination will be reduced through the use of sustainable mobility.
