In 2018, Seprona agents were present at two Montaña de las Tórtolas livestock farms, in Cercados de Araña, in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, with a multitude of heads of goats, sheep and poultry, eight bodies of goat animals of different sizes and in various stages of putrefaction, located in a hole in the ground next to combustible materials ready for subsequent incineration. But the serious thing about all this is not so much the issue of the animals but the possession for use of an illegal weapon of war. The Prosecutor's Office requests a sentence of one year and 6 months in prison for the crime of animal abuse. For the crime of illegal possession of weapons, the penalty is 6 years in prison, with the accessory of special disqualification for the right to passive suffrage during the time of the sentence as well as the payment of procedural costs.
In a second farm, located in Montaña de las Tabaibas, also in Cercados de Araña, there was a similar case with a multitude of heads of goats, sheep, pigs and horses, in addition to several guard dogs on the farm, two were found. carcasses of goats in a common area, and two carcasses of adult goats in bags or sacks located in the bed of a truck. Likewise, the existence of four dogs with lacerating wounds in their ears, and a profusion of flies and other insects throughout the farm, was observed, with a shortage of food and water in several of the community feeders installed for the animals.
The accused, who lacked record books of the livestock farms, veterinary treatment book, invoices and documents for the subsequent removal of the corpses existing there, with absolute disregard for the life and physical integrity of the animals, had kept them in notoriously deficient circumstances in terms of hygiene, sanitation, feeding and care, which ended up causing the aforementioned injuries to the dogs and the death of the twelve goats previously mentioned.
cited.
At the same time, and within the framework of the visit carried out at this second livestock farm on June 25, 2018, the intervening agents located, behind some wooden panels located near a freezer and some shelves with tools, a white sack with a firearm inside, and later a carbine with a telescopic sight in a storage room. There was a STAR brand submachine gun, caliber 9 millimeters long, model RU 1935, with serial number 328. The accused, with evident intention of disturbing public order, kept said submachine gun in his possession, fully aware that it was a war weapon, capable of being fired by bursts, and whose possession by individuals and without any license is strictly prohibited.
