The men were surprised by the shop assistant

Agents of the National Police have arrested two men in Telde, between 40 and 59 years of age and without police records, as alleged perpetrators of a crime of misappropriation.

On May 29, the clerk at a jewelry store located inside a shopping center in Telde was currently serving a supposed client. When she noticed that the detainees were entering the counter and taking with them a tray with a lot of jewelry valued at €12.875, she asked the shopping center's security guards for help.

The arrested people, alerted by the woman's screams, ran outside the premises and the man who had posed as a customer at the time the criminal act occurred, left the business seconds later.

This information was obtained thanks to the investigations carried out by the Local Judicial Police Brigade of the National Police, through which it was also possible to demonstrate that the third individual was in cahoots with the two detainees.

Thanks to the rapid police action, two days after the events that occurred, the National Police fully identified and located the alleged perpetrators.

At the time of the arrest, several bank cards were seized, as well as a metal lockpick, a mobile phone, two handwritten sheets coded with symbols and an invoice from the jewelry store where the criminal acts occurred.

The police investigation relates the events described to a crime of theft in a Jewelry Store in another Shopping Center in Las Palmas de GC, which occurred in November 2023.

That time, the market value of the stolen jewelry amounted to €39.000.

The way the detainees operated in both crimes consisted of committing the criminal acts and, once outside the commercial area, changing their clothing to make their identification difficult.

Once the police report was completed, the detainees were placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority.

The police investigation remains open. New arrests are not ruled out.
