The Gran Canaria Civil Guard today arrested a 50-year-old man as the alleged perpetrator of two crimes of robbery with violence and intimidation, when he committed two robberies in small businesses, carrying a knife in both robberies and threatening shop assistants, located in an area close to the urban center of Vecindario.
The Civil Guard learned on June 9 as a result of a video that went viral on social networks of how a robber with a knife in hand entered a supermarket, heading to the counter and later to the cashier's position, threatening and intimidating to the personnel responsible at that time to obtain the collection from the cash register, fleeing the place quickly since he was hiding in a place near the commercial area so as not to be identified after the arrival of the Civil Guard agents.
Furthermore, in the same area where the robbery on June 9 took place, another was perpetrated three days later, coinciding with the same modus operandi, the alleged perpetrator of the incident entered a food establishment located a few meters from the previous one, intimidating the staff who run it again by showing a knife and through threats and intimidation he managed to take the money from the cash register.
For this reason, and given the social alarm generated in the area, the agents of the Neighborhood Civil Guard Investigation Area immediately collected all the corresponding investigations and investigations to clarify the crimes referred to, obtaining the first investigations at the scene of the events, which were decisive in identifying the alleged perpetrator, based on physical characteristics and clothing.
After gathering the necessary evidence to identify the alleged perpetrator of the robberies and verifying that the perpetrator changed his appearance in both robberies, to try to mislead the agents, a search operation was initiated in different municipalities of Gran Canaria, also counting on the collaboration of the Local Police of Vecindario, being finally located and detained on the public road in the town of Vecindario today.
Currently, the detainee is being held in police custody, with the Civil Guard carrying out the appropriate procedures that will be delivered upon completion to the San Bartolomé de Tirajana guard court.
