For now, the beaches of Salinetas, Melenara in Telde and San Agustín in San Bartolomé de Tirajana remain closed to bathing.

The Beaches and Citizen Safety departments of the Telde City Council decided this Sunday, after having authorized its reopening at noon, to close Melenara beach again when a shark was again detected near the coast.

The Local Police services, Civil Protection and the company Proactiva, in charge of the lifeguard service on the municipality's coastline, continue working in a coordinated manner to supervise, with a drone and jet ski unit, that the shark does not approach the beach again. coast.

On Saturday, the prevention protocol was activated due to the sighting of a shark near the coast of Telde, raising the red flag on the beach and evacuating bathers from the water.

Early on Sunday, the members of Proactiva confirmed, through a sweep on a jet ski and with the assistance of the aerial camera of the drone unit (Unidron) of the Telde Local Police, directed by Juan José Florido, that the shark was no longer in the vicinity. However, hours later, he was sighted again.

However, in the last few hours some tourists claim to have also seen a shark with similar characteristics on the beach of San Agustín, so they did not want to take any risks and went to the bathroom immediately, leaving for the moment the beaches of Melenara, Salinetas and the latter in San Agustín closed to the bathroom
