The arrival of the tourist summer will change things in 2024. For the first time in years, the presence of Nordics in the south of Gran Canaria will increase in an unusual period since this market usually opts for the Mediterranean in summer. The director of Tourism of the Canary Islands, José Juan Lorenzo, has noted that more than 71.000 Norwegians are going on holiday to the Canary Islands this summer, an increase of 10,8 percent compared to last year.

57.000 go to Gran Canaria, the rest to Tenerife and a few hundred to Lanzarote. "We are a climatic refuge both in summer and winter," says the managing director of Promotur. It is estimated that the total spending of Nordic tourists in Gran Canaria during the winter of 2024 could exceed 800 million euros.

The Nordics want to escape the overheating of southern Europe and the getaway to the south of Gran Canaria is key in 2024 with a profile of quality-conscious tourists with greater purchasing power, in line with the climate objectives of the tourism organization and the ambitions of higher quality at all levels.

Nordic tourism reservations in Gran Canaria for the winter of 2024 are experiencing a notable boom, consolidating the south of the island as a reference destination for travelers from this region. Preliminary figures indicate growth of up to 15% compared to the same period in 2023. It is estimated that more than 900.000 Nordic tourists will visit Gran Canaria during the winter of 2024. Norway remains the main source market, followed by Sweden, Finland and Denmark. The months of December, January and February are the most popular for Nordic tourists.
