Jasper Cillessen joins Valles and Escandell, who at first seemed confirmed departures but whose operations have stalled
The Las Palmas Sports Union has a lot of goalkeepers. The former goalkeeper of FC Barcelona and Valencia, Jasper Cillessen, landed this week in Gran Canaria to undergo a medical examination and join the discipline of a team that still does not have a coach for the following season.
The incorporation of goalkeeper Dinko Horkas, a 25-year-old Croatian goalkeeper who plays for Lokomotiv Plovdiv, an unknown profile in Spanish football but recommended by Branko Milovanovic, also seems on track.
These two profiles were scheduled to respectively replace Álvaro Valles and Aarón Escandell, whose departures seemed confirmed at the end of the season. However, everything has stalled and now Las Palmas could be seen with a new front in the planning process for the 2024/2025 season.
The clearest exit seemed to be that of Álvaro Valles, during the season it was practically taken for granted that he would head to the Premier League, however in the final stretch of the season the Betis option gained strength and even rumors included him in the operation. Recent Bundesliga champion with Bayer Leverkusen and property of the Andalusian club, Borja Iglesias.
However, the operation seems to have stalled due to a lack of understanding and agreement between both parties, so Valles could find himself in the dilemma of renewing with the club to get more money in a possible sale or being relegated to the stands for the year of his contract. What remains with Las Palmas.
With Escandell the situation is similar, despite not enjoying many opportunities last season, everything indicated that the club's technical management would not count on him for next season; something that was taken for granted after the last game, however in an Instagram post, the goalkeeper called on the yellow fans to "see each other again after the holidays and enjoy another great season together." Some statements to which, like the situation in Valles, is added the jam in the operations to find a way out.
