Looking for foster families for the dogs from the municipal kennel

Maspalomas24h Wednesday, June 19, 2024

The center needs to find responsible adopters who will give the animals a new chance at life and help decongest the service.

The City Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana is looking for committed and responsible people, animal lovers, who want to adopt one of the dogs that are currently in municipal custody at the Temporary Animal Stay Center (CETA) on the Lomo Gordo highway. -Perera Loin.

With this objective, the Department of Health headed by the eighth deputy mayor Araceli Armas Cruz plans to hold an open day for the municipal kennel this Saturday, June 22, from ten in the morning to one in the afternoon.

These adoptions aim to find foster families for the sheltered pets and alleviate the carrying capacity of the establishment that the City Council is allocating to the care and custody of abandoned animals that are rescued on public roads or that are removed for any reason. to their owners.

The enclosure, legally authorized and equipped as a transit zoo, has a structure and housing permit for 20 animals, but is currently guarding and providing veterinary care to 22.

>The adoption call that the Department of Health is making is aimed especially at those people who are thinking about adopting a dog and want to guarantee the opportunity of a new life for one of these supervised dogs.

The pets will be delivered duly identified, with their microchip and their registration card in the municipal census of domestic animals, and with their fully updated private veterinary passport.

In any case, the Health councilor insists that these adoptions must be “very thoughtful, because they entail great responsibility and cannot respond to an impulse or be done lightly. No one in the family should be allergic or asthmatic and, in addition, all members of the family clan must agree on their care, because companion animals require a commitment to daily care throughout their lives.”

This is the third initiative to adopt dogs from the kennel undertaken by the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council. The first was also held as an open day on the eve of the entry into force of the new Animal Protection and Welfare Law (7/2023) on September 29, and the second at the end of last November, coinciding with the celebration of the informative days on said legal regulations that the council directed by Araceli Armas organized to inform especially the managers of the feline colonies.

On that last occasion, four adoptions were carried out. Specifically, a much older hound with more than two years in the kennel, a young two-year-old retriever dog with a month of stay in the same shelter; of a small Yorkshire mix dog, which until then had been in the center for a week, so it was a priority that he find an adoption family soon, and a large three-year-old German Shepherd type shepherd dog.
