Maspalomas will sell 38 million accommodation nights to European tourism in 2027

The south of Gran Canaria will market up to 2027 million hotel nights and up to 20 million apartment nights in 18, that is, 38 million nights, in the European market, according to official projections from officials in Las Palmas specialized in subsoil management. In order to understand these figures, it is worth noting that hotels in the Canary Islands registered 5,58 million overnight stays in the month of April 2024, which represents 0,87% compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the data released. by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). So far this year, the Canary Islands have registered 24,01 million hotel overnight stays. That is to say: the south of Gran Canaria will be equivalent to two months of annual tourism in the entire Canary Islands without counting the 'Airbnb virus' in tourist areas.


These figures do not include operations for the sale of residential beds through formats such as Airbnb. In areas like Maspalomas, it would sell 16,7 million hotel nights and 18 million apartment nights. 34,9 million hotel nights to cover an equivalent population of 95.740 people.

Specifically, the projections of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria point to 19,2 million hotel nights compared to 18,1 million apartment nights. In 2024, Gran Canaria would exceed, according to the projections of the island's authorities, 100.000 nights sold per day.

In 2027, Gran Canaria would sell a tourism product on the market for 89.300 beds with an average occupancy of 71,4%. The number of beds in apartments would be 99.485 with an average occupancy of less than 50% and a tourist population equivalent to 121.183 tourist personnel.

 

If we take into account only Spanish travelers, a total of 171.073 stayed in hotel establishments in the Canary Islands during the month of April 2024. If compared to the same period in 2017, this figure represents a variation of -2,2% . However, these figures are influenced by seasonality: for example, in 2018 Easter was celebrated at the end of March while in 2017, these holiday days fell in April, distorting interannual variations.

The number of hotel establishments that were open in the month of April 2024 was 584, a figure that if compared with the same month of the previous year, the variation is 1,21%. The estimated number of beds in these hotel establishments was 259.928. Compared to the same month of the previous year, it changed by 1,34%.
