Its objective is to raise awareness about the importance of recycling organic waste, implement the brown container and make good use of it "so as not to break the cycle."
The 'Organic' campaign to promote the use of the fifth container was presented on the morning of this Wednesday, June 26, by the president of the Commonwealth of the Southeast of Gran Canaria and mayor of Agüimes, Óscar Hernández; the mayor of Ingenio, Vanesa Martín, and the mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García. This is another commitment by the Commonwealth to sustainability, raising awareness in society about the importance of recycling organic waste and promoting effective recycling practices.

The information campaign, which is developed in association with Ayagaures Medioambiente - an environmental and services company of the Pérez Moreno Group -, seeks to inform the population about how to correctly use the new organic container, distinguished by its brown color, distributed, for the moment , through 19 neighborhoods in the region, as explained by the president of the Commonwealth, who also highlighted “the global concept of circular economy” in this campaign. “Being aware of the treatment of this waste allows us to obtain products such as biogas or natural fertilizers that are absolutely compatible with the development of the life cycle, proposing from the Commonwealth that environmental commitment, that commitment to sustainability,” added Óscar Hernández .
During the presentation, it was also recalled that the recycling experience in the Commonwealth is very positive, being an example both in the Canary Islands and in the European community for its high recycling rates. The involvement of citizens is essential and, therefore, to make the most of this great advantage, the campaign will consist of explaining which products can be discarded in the brown container and the importance of using biodegradable bags, among other necessary aspects. "so as not to break the cycle."
The presentation included the screening of the campaign's advertisement, which features the participation of comedian Maestro Florido, in which the comedian highlights, with his particular sense of humor, the importance of using the brown container correctly.
Also important is the use of a specific key to open it, as recalled by the mayor of Ingenio, Vanesa Martín, informing that it can be picked up at any of the town halls in the southeastern region. The Ingeniense councilor also took advantage of the occasion to call for collaboration.
