El Rotary Club Maspalomas International La Paz Camp celebrates its tenth edition, once again converting the south of Gran Canaria at the epicenter of coexistence, peace and solidarity. About twenty young people arrived from countries such as Finland, Bulgaria or Turkey, as well as children from the entire peninsula selected according to their student performance and the islands They will coexist for a few days through this summer program that aims to promote Peace, friendship and international understanding, through educational, cultural, sports and recreational activities.
Every year, the Camp offers an interesting series of conferences to invite reflection on current issues. On this occasion the talks will revolve around cybercrime and the misuse of social networks, gender violence among women in Africa, an approach to the current conflict in Armenia and how the Rotary Foundation approaches programs in favor of La Paz .
Since el July 1th la County House of San Fernando de Maspalomas will receive the first conference meeting from the 18: 00h, with the table “International cooperation and the empowerment of women in Africa (Senegal), key to sustainable development and global solidarity” and the talk given by the doctor Monica Hathiramani Sánchez, “Research and work life an opportunity to grow.”
On Tuesday July 2th the opening ceremony will take place from the 10: 30h with the presence of the mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez, the Minister of Institutional Cooperation and International Solidarity of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Carmelo Ramirez and the Governor of district 2201 Rotary International, Luis Gomez Ojero. This edition will also be his first official intervention since he was appointed.
The inaugural conference, on cyberviolence and cyberbullying, will be given by the researcher and commander of the Civil Guard María José Garrido Antón author of several books, among which her novel “On People and Monsters” stands out, about real investigations. Next, “The Cause of Armenia in the Field of Peace”, with the lawyer Emma Hakobyan.
On Wednesday July 3th at 18: 00h, workshop “The Rotary Foundation's commitment to peacebuilding and conflict resolution, its programs” by Ana Martin member of the team of technical advisors of the Rotary Foundation, Senior Telecommunications Engineer and Biomedical Engineer. Thursday July 4th the Camp moves to Africa House with the conference "Beyond the numbers, a sociocultural analysis of African migratory movements", Adama Aw, Senegalese student at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, specialist in Afro-Hispanic literatures, at 18: 00h.
El 10th Rotary Maspalomas International Peace Camp concludes on Friday at 18:00 p.m. in the Casa Condal with the intervention of its manager and president of the Maspalomas Rotary Club on up to five occasions, Daniel Bazan. All conferences are held openly until capacity is reached.
