The president of the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Services and Navigation of Gran Canaria, Luis Padrón, has been unanimously elected first vice president of Insuleur, the Network of Island Chambers of Commerce of the European Union. This network is made up of 45 European chambers and aims to promote and defend the interests of the islands in the European Union.
Luis Padrón replaces Patrick Vial-Collet, representative of the French island chambers, in office.
Insuleur was created in 2000 with the aim of improving economic and social conditions in European island regions, which are making efforts to face difficulties due to their insular nature. The Island Chambers of Commerce of the European Union hope to become pioneers of a new approach towards island regions in Europe through this initiative, progressively equalizing the imbalances between continental and island regions.
