Three local police officers from the Santa Lucía de Tirajana City Council and two civil guards were injured during the police operation that took place this Sunday night, when the local police began the pursuit of a driver of a van who, after crashing into several vehicles, , he fled and also collided with a civil guard vehicle and another local police vehicle.

The events began around 21 p.m. this Sunday when some neighbors called the local police to report that a white van was driving and had collided with several vehicles that were parked without stopping. Another neighbor began to follow the van, while he spoke with the local police and told them where the vehicle was going.

When the local police located him, they stopped him, but the driver of the van did not stop and, in addition, he rammed into several vehicles of the security forces, first colliding with a civil guard unit and also against a vehicle of the local police. After a chase through different streets of the municipality, undertaken by agents in four local police vehicles and one from the civil guard, they finally managed to intercept the vehicle and stop and arrest the driver.

The mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García, stated that "with what happened last night we can highlight the importance of neighborhood collaboration, to achieve the arrest of this individual who endangered the life and safety of our neighbors." The mayor also highlights that “this operation was possible thanks to the fact that the local police had four patrols on duty throughout the weekend, something that we have been doing for a long time and that has also served to carry out other successful police operations, which show that “In Santa Lucía de Tirajana they work to maintain a safe city.” The mayor also thanked the civil guard for its collaboration in this operation.

The Chief Commissioner of the Local Police, José Luis Herrera, also thanked the neighbors for their collaboration, and stated that “the detained individual refused to take the breathalyzer tests, but we have stated in the report that he presented symptoms of having drunk alcohol and consumed narcotic substances.” After searching the van, the police were able to seize some doses of cocaine and hashish. Herrera adds that “we are waiting for the neighbors whose cars were hit by this individual to file complaints to include them in the police report, which we will deliver to the court.
