The tour operator FTI has warned this Tuesday about phishing scammers who want to take advantage of the tour operator's insolvency by using SMS and email to request bank details from users who booked trips to the south of Gran Canaria as well as to other European destinations. The criminals' messages encourage consumers to send their bank details to supposedly recover the amount they are stuck with in bankruptcy. So far, fraud attempts have apparently failed. Currently, the German Travel Insurance Fund has so far not made refunds beyond the directly covered expenses. An online portal will soon be created to store data and documents from suppliers and customers in the south of Gran Canaria. It is not possible to register yet. The insolvency services provider has not yet been able to provide any information on figures and impact in the south of Gran Canaria.
Until the bankruptcy filing, airlines were required to continue their contracts with Flight Trading. However, they now have the opportunity to officially reschedule. The full extent of the financial damage to the affected airlines is currently unclear. The bankruptcy administrator also announced that all package holidays and certain individual services for departures from 6 July had been cancelled. The cancellations affect a total of about 175.000 combined trips, so the financial damage amounts to millions of dollars. After the subsidiaries Big Xtra and 5 vor Flug also declared bankruptcy, Flight Trading GmbH was also affected, as FTI Touristik explains in a statement. According to the specialist publisher FVW Medien, air connections of airlines such as Eurowings, Sun Express and Condor are affected.
