The foundation of Rotary projects: Sustainability and local needs

 

Rotary is present in 200 countries around the world, there are 1.400.00 Rotarians and thousands of projects are carried out all over the planet every year. Today, the tenth edition of the Rotary Maspalomas International Camp was attended by one of the technical advisors of the Rotary Foundation, Ana Martín, a Biomedical and Telecommunications Engineer who currently works in the field of strategic development of the health sector and who has played throughout his career relevant management positions in companies

In the 2022-2023 Rotary year alone, the Rotary Foundation has had nearly 2.000 global grants in place, not counting club and district grants. Martín spoke to attendees about the Rotary Foundation's commitment to peacebuilding and conflict resolution through its programs, all of which are in line with the Foundation's work areas, such as peace and conflict prevention. , environment, water and sanitation or maternal and child health.

When designing an action program, the speaker explained, a prior study on the real local needs of the place where you want to act is essential. It is also basic, “that when the money runs out the project continues, that it is sustainable, there is no point bringing them a truck of vegetables, you have to teach them how to grow crops.”
