The mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García, requested this Wednesday the Government Delegate in the Canary Islands, Anselmo Pestana, that the Ministry of the Interior increase the catalog of human resources of the civil guard in the municipality. García made this request during the meeting he held this afternoon with the Government Delegate in the Canary Islands. Also present at the meeting were the first deputy mayor, Julio Ojeda, the chief commissioner of the Local Police, José Luis Herrera, the subdelegate of the government, María Teresa Mayans, and other commanders of the civil guard and the Local Police and the president of the Association of Neighborhood Entrepreneurs (ASCOIVE), Juan Pérez.
During the meeting, the first mayor of Santa Lucía stated that in the last two decades the southeastern municipality is one of those that has grown the most in population, however, this growth has not occurred in the civil guard workforce. Francisco García pointed out that “Santa Lucía de Tirajana is a safe city but it is necessary to increase the staff of the state security forces to adapt to the needs of the current population, in the same way that the police staff has grown. local and other municipal services.”
During the meeting, both the mayor and the Government Delegate agreed that Santa Lucía de Tirajana is a safe city, and that the civil guard and the local police are working in a coordinated and complementary manner. The mayor mentioned some peninsular cities with a population similar to that of Santa Lucía where in some cases there are double the number of civil guard troops. Anselmo Pestana insisted that the data on security and police effectiveness in Gran Canaria and the Canary Islands are very positive. At the end of the meeting, the mayor stated that “this meeting took place in a climate of normality, we are satisfied because we have the commitment of the Government Delegate to improve security in our municipality in the near future and that he will transfer to the Ministry of the Interior. the request to improve the catalog of human resources destined for the municipality.”
Representatives of the Association of Neighborhood Entrepreneurs (ASCOIVE) were present at this Wednesday's meeting, who had asked the mayor to meet with the Government Delegate to ask him to improve the presence of the civil guard in the commercial area. On December 1, 2021, during the pandemic, the mayor also had a meeting with the Government Delegate to ask him to increase the catalog of human resources destined for the municipality, but since then no change has occurred.
