The macro route is in ideal conditions for hiking.
The weekend concluded the theoretical and practical sessions organized by the Mogán City Council, with the collaboration of Etno Experience Canarias, to publicize the 'Tamaranae: between Riscos and Barrancos' macro route to professionals, guides, groups of hikers and in general to mountain lovers. It is the fourth time in a period of one year that this activity is carried out within the framework of the European ECO-TUR project, 85% co-financed by the Interreg MAC 2014-2020 Transnational Cooperation Program.
The Moganero City Council has rehabilitated the 31 kilometers of trails that make up the macro route with European FEDER funds, carrying out the reconstruction of the deteriorated areas through clearing and cleaning, the repair of the pavement, the restoration of the traditional paving, the walls and steps of land, reinforcing road safety, creating rest areas and installing new signage.
This has allowed the macro route to be in ideal conditions for hiking and, for its promotion, informative sessions have been held just over a year ago. The first were in November 2020, and the following in February, May and November of this year.
They have all consisted of two parts. The first, an informative activity about the macro route taught electronically by Rafa Molina, manager of Etno Experience Canarias and official hiking guide. It explains the technical aspects of the trail, its history and cultural, natural and ethnographic values, given that originally they were the only routes that connected the neighborhoods of Mogán.
The second part is a practical recognition of the macro route that is carried out in three days due to its length. 'Tamaranae: between Riscos and Barrancos' is divided into five sections that pass through Mogán Casco, Molino de Viento, Barranquillo Andrés, Soria and Veneguera. This part, specifically, from the so-called Degollada de Tasarte to Molino de Viento and from this to Laderones, continues towards the Degollada de las Yeguas, from there to Barranquillo Andrés and culminates in Pie de la Cuesta. The people who have participated in these excursions have been received by a member of the Government group, on this last occasion by the Councilor for Heritage, Consuelo Díaz, and receive backpacks, visors and shirts with the logos of the ECO-TUR project.
With these sessions, the City Council seeks to turn the macro route into a reference for the rural environment of Mogán and the island, to highlight the interior areas and, consequently, to diversify the tourist offer of the municipality. These mark the path of the Local Administration towards ecotourism and active tourism, since it aims to promote leisure, cultural and sports activities outside conventional tourist centers to enhance the local economy and the conservation of the natural environment.
