Gran Canaria “perfect” destination for the LGTBI customer at Madrid Pride

MASPALOMAS24H Saturday, July 06, 2024

All prepared. Gran Canaria is positioned as a leading tourist destination in the eyes of millions of people in the LGTBI Pride demonstration, which is celebrated this Saturday, July 6, in Madrid. It will do so through the presence of a float, adapted for people with reduced mobility, which will take part in the planned tour through the streets of the Spanish capital. This is an initiative of the Tourism Department of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, with the support of the Tourism and Diversity Departments of Santa Lucía de Tirajana and the Equality Department of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

“Gran Canaria is a leading destination in Europe and the World for LGTBI clients. We have a specific top-level tourist infrastructure and events that are an international reference for this client, such as Maspalomas Pride or Winter Pride. This year we have received the FITUR LGTBI+ award and we want to communicate that we are the perfect destination for this client. That is why we have opted for a powerful action at Madrid Pride since it is a stage of enormous visibility to the millions of people who participate in this festive event. “It is a high-spending and key customer for our tourism sector,” said the Minister of Tourism of Gran Canaria, Carlos Álamo.

The two-story vehicle with capacity for 140 people has a promotional design with landscapes of Gran Canaria and also has audiovisual elements, since videos of emblematic places on the Island will be projected through external screens. In addition, it is an adapted leisure vehicle with European patent PMR certification.

This is the first participation of Gran Canaria with its own vehicle in the Madrid Pride and the second presence, with a float, in an event of the LGTBI community in the capital of Spain, since a similar action was previously carried out in the Europride of 2007.

Gran Canaria Tourism appreciates the collaboration of businessmen such as Armide Jiménez García and Iván Rodríguez Dacosta who provide the vehicle; and the participation of Fernando Medina Jiménez, international expert in LGTBI+ tourism.
