The Church of Tunte will host the starting signal of its Festivities this Friday, July 12, with the reading of the traditional opening proclamation, which this year will be given by Expedita María Santiago Sánchez Pérez, who at 81 years old is very proud to represent the voice of their own people. “The proclamation will have many surprises and details about Tunte, and will give great importance to the special role of women in the town,” the town crier said. The program prepared by the Department of Celebrations and Events of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council in collaboration with the Santiago El Chico Cultural Association, presents this year "a wide variety of activities for all ages."
The presentation of the program was carried out by the mayor of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, Marco Aurelio Pérez; the Councilor for Celebrations and Events, Yilenia Vega (CC); the head of Corazón Azul Producciones, Juanka Hernández, and the town crier, Expedita María Sánchez. Once the proclamation is over, the Young People's Night will fill the Plaza de Tunte making the public vibrate to the rhythm of the music starting at 22:00 p.m. On Saturday, July 13, starting at 18:30 p.m., the day will continue with a mass at the Ermita de Santiago, in El Pinar, accompanied by the Santa Lucía de Tirajana Cultural Association and the Folkloric-Cultural Association Dancers of El Pinar, from El Hierro. . Next, the descent of the Camino de Santiago el Chico will take place, as long as the weather permits it, since the Cabildo of Gran Canaria has declared a pre-alert due to the risk of fire. The night will conclude to the rhythm of folk music with Tenderetunte and a great Taifa Dance from 22:00 p.m.
The little ones in the house will be able to enjoy recreational and leisure activities during all the holidays, with shows and children's games or celebrations such as the Great Foam Festival that once again hosts the town square. Seniors will also have a day dedicated exclusively to them. On Friday the 19th starting at 20:00 p.m., the Plaza de Tunte will host the Mayor's Festival with several musical shows and to finish with a toast and a great festival to close the night to the sound of music.
The traditions will continue on Saturday the 20th with the cozy Pilgrimage in honor of Santiago that will gather neighbors and family on the main street of the capital of the municipality, starting at 20:30 p.m., to enjoy a unique celebration, remembering the importance of coming well dressed. with the corresponding clothing. The night will culminate with the Great Romero Verbena to add a touch of rhythm and music, in a meeting that will invite all attendees to dance and enjoy.
This year's program highlights the tribute and recognition of Juana Suárez Rodríguez, born in Tejeda in 1953 and died on March 3, 2022, which will be celebrated on Sunday, July 21. Recognized for her craft, this artisan dedicated years of her life to the Tunte Crafts workshop, working in her craft until her retirement. Her gift of people made her a very beloved neighbor, who will always be linked to what she considered her home, Tunte.
Livestock could not be missing in such a festive encounter with its typical fair, in an event that will feature the traditional animal parade and its corresponding awards ceremony in front of Santiago Apóstol. On the big day of Santiago, Thursday the 25th, from 5:00 in the morning a flowered target will walk through the streets of the town accompanied by the Agaete Band. Subsequently, a solemn Eucharist will be celebrated presided over by Don Salvador Santana Rivero, parish priest of San Sebastián de Agüimes, giving way to the procession through the streets of Tunte. The festivities will culminate on Saturday, July 27 with the White Party, a meeting that every year unites Santiago de Tunte with Santiago de Cuba in a unique meeting.
