Maspalomas Costa Canaria Soul Festival is written with 'M' for Woman

The eighth edition of the Maspalomas Costa Canaria Soul Festival, organized by the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, is written with M for Woman. They will undoubtedly be the protagonists of this musical meeting on the shores of the Atlantic that will be held from July 19 to 21 at San Agustín Beach, in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. Candy Box, Dani McGhee, Shunta Mosby, Wendy Moten and Martha High will pay tribute with their presence to the divas of the genre who have marked an era and who have become authentic references in the history of soul in their own right. In addition, the Gran Canarian formation City Dock Band will present their 'Show Woman Soul' led by its three vocalists, Mónica Campodarve, Noelia Ramos and Fina Alemán, while the local selector Dj VAMP will complete this female cast with her musical selections.

 

Candy Box, Dani McGhee, Shunta Mosby and Wendy Moten will be accompanied on stage by the prestigious Memphis Music Hall of Fame Band, which will premiere on the Gran Canaria coast, while Martha High will do so together with Julián Maeso Organ Trío.

 

Dania Dévora, director of the festival, pointed out that “soul has always stood out for the enormous number of great female voices that it has given and that have stood out throughout history, and the Maspalomas Costa Canaria Soul Festival is a reflection of that reality. , since that trend is still more alive than ever.” Furthermore, she wanted to highlight “the voices that we also have in the Canary Islands, and which we will be able to enjoy in this edition thanks to the three excellent vocalists of the City Dock Band.”

 

The talent show The Voice launched Wendy Moten as a singer, attracting millions of new followers. She demonstrated her versatility by exploring R&B, pop, country and jazz. Raised in Memphis, she sang her first solo in church at age eight. Immersed in the local music scene, she met Santos, a bassist, almost 30 years ago. She moved with him to Nashville in 1996. Recognized in Music City, she earned the nickname “The Voice.” She now works with producers like Paul Worley and hopes to showcase her talent nationally. 

 

Dani McGhee is a contemporary gospel artist. She began singing at age 5 and toured with the Tennessee Mass Choir at age 8. She co-founded Darrel Petties and Strength
in Praise, nominated for the Stellar Award. He recorded with the award-winning Changed in 2007. He has performed worldwide, including Canada. As a backing vocalist, she accompanied artists such as Kirk Franklin and Vanessa Bell Armstrong. In 2011, she opened for Mali Music and Tye Tribbett. She released her first mix in 2012 and her album Unveiled in 2019.

 

Candy Fox, a native of Memphis, Tennessee, has immersed herself in her musical legacy since childhood, standing out on American Idol and Boston Idol. With Free Sol, she won the Mid-South Grammy Showcase. She has collaborated with legends such as David Porter and Toni Green, in addition to releasing her debut album, Soul Stir. Currently, she is part of the Road to Memphis production and fronts the band Third Coast for the Memphis Grizzlies. 

 

 

 

 

A singer from Memphis, Tennessee, Shunta Mosby began his musical career at performing arts schools and then honed his talent at DePauw University. With more than 20 years in the industry, she stood out as a backup singer alongside artists such as Willie Hutch, David Porter and J Blackfoot. She has collaborated with Memphis artists such as Wendy Moten and Booker T. Jones, and shared the stage with Howard Hewett and En Vogue. As a solo artist, she has made her mark at events such as The Beale Street Cigar and Memphis Vegan Festival, while she values ​​time with her family and enjoying life. 

 

Martha High began her career with The Jewels and their hit Opportunity. She sang with James Brown for 30 years, notably in Summertime and Original Funky Divas. She released a disco album in 1979 and stopped performing with Brown in 2000 to join Maceo Parker. Later, she collaborated with Soulpower, performing in Europe and Africa. In 2016, she released a solo album, followed by singles like Somos uno.

 

The City Dock Band is a soul, funky and Rhythm and Blues music group composed of three female singers, Mónica Campodarve, Noelia Ramos and Fina Alemán, as well as piano, organ, guitar, electric bass, drums, and wind section. In their performances they review classic songs of the genre made famous by great figures such as Arheta Franklin, Donna Summer, Tina Turner, Ray Charles, Otis Redding and Stevie Wonder. 

 

 

 

From an early age, DJ VAMP frenetically felt the love for music that vibrated in his being. Fascinated by bizarre rhythms, surfing, 60's garage
and 70, began a journey of discovery into a hidden culture of vinyl and
cursed groups. For DJ VAMP, vinyl is a work of art that connects
and transforms, always preparing sets full of emotions and surprises. She has witnessed the evolution of the music scene, highlighting the growth of the female presence and the resurgence of vinyl as a sensitive return to the authenticity of music. 

 

The eighth edition will also feature the artists Jonathan Ellison, Jerome Chism and Gerald Richardson, the selector Mr. Kangrejo, and with the usual master of ceremonies, the spectacular Rick Hutton, accompanied in this task by Sergio Miró.
