Isaco and his adventures. The cave of the dead” has the collaboration of the Department of Culture of San Bartolomé de Tirajana

“Isaco and his adventures. The Cave of the Dead” has been presented this month[Img # 4482]arts, November 23, at the Maspalomas Cultural Center. The event was attended by 80 5th and 6th grade students from the Arenas Sur School and was facilitated by the archaeologist Marco Moreno and the comic illustrator, Alberto Hernández, who explained to them the ins and outs of comic making and taught them some techniques to create their own illustrations.

The comic has been published by the publishing house Tibicena Publicaciones and is the first in a series of comics planned for children with the aim of disseminating the knowledge necessary to get to know the indigenous population and its material remains. Moreno and Hernández announced to the attendees that they are already working on the second issue.

The event was very participatory and in it the boys and girls asked a multitude of questions related to the comic creation process, from the sketch to its publication.

The book, which includes an introduction by archaeologist Javier Velasco, tells the life of Isaco, an orphan boy who lives in the indigenous town of La Fortaleza, in the municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana. The protagonist, along with Bentagay, Lena or Birima, will live various adventures, showing some details of ancient Canarian society.

The publication can be purchased online through www.tibicena.com and will be available in bookstores at the end of November. In the case of the Department of Culture and Historical Heritage of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, the collaboration has consisted of the purchase of 100 copies that will be given to different groups of schoolchildren as a collective itinerant loan with the aim of reaching the largest number of schoolchildren possible.

The Councilor for Culture, Elena Espino, highlights the importance of supporting this type of initiatives that aim to value historical, cultural or natural heritage by making it accessible to children.
