The Department of Celebrations and Events of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council inaugurated the patron saint festivities of Tunte in honor of Santigo with a very special proclamation, led by Expedita María Santiago Sánchez Pérez, who highlighted the importance of the role he has played women in the capital of the Tirajanero municipality. The crier was presented by the mayor of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council, Marco Aurelio Pérez; and by the Councilor for Celebrations and Events, Yilenia Vega. Both agreed to point out Expedita's affable, hospitable and affectionate character. To give way, Vega highlighted "today's proclamation highlights the work of a great woman who went from being Pepe's lady to being a great pioneer, entrepreneur and protagonist of these Patron Saint Festivities."
Expedita, accompanied by her daughter Davinia, reviewed in conversation what the birth, upbringing and maturity of this born entrepreneur was like, and how throughout her life she worked in different professions such as harvesting and packaging vegetables and fruits, hospitality, until she became a businesswoman “almost without knowing how to read or write.” To begin the proclamation they mentioned the renowned tirajanero Pancho Guerra who, like her, grew up in the streets of Tunte, and in recognition of his work they titled the proclamation using one of his fillers “From when Doña Expedita Sánchez was born and linked to the festivities of Santiago de Tunte.”

His presentation was full of experiences and memories, taking a tour of the most endearing moments of his life, from his birth and connection to the Santiago Festival, through school, his romantic adventures with Pepe el de Veneguera or even anecdotes along to his brothers, like when they got lost and ended up in the hermitage of Santiago el Chico. There were also moments of emotion and a feeling of longing remembering the moment of retirement and how the people of the town have been leaving little by little.
Her time as a businesswoman was also a very important part of this inaugural proclamation. Since she started running the Cuatro Esquinas Bar until she opened the Santana Restaurant, Expedita reviewed the most memorable moments as a businesswoman in the capital of Tirajana, “a fact that has made her one of the most beloved neighbors in Tunte,” as she pointed out. the mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez, to introduce the crier. In addition, she put the focus on women entrepreneurs, especially of the time, where despite not being given relevance, they were “necessary, so much so that all the businesses in the town had a female presence.”
The large audience present in the Church of Tunte listened without losing any detail of the experiences told by Expedita and at the end, they burst into great applause in a show of affection and recognition for the herald of the Festivities in honor of Santiago 2024.
